notes: Food Bank Helps in Disaster Relief
The San Antonio Food Bank is working with the American Red Cross San Antonio Area Chapter to feed those Texas coast residents fleeing Ike's wrath.
We are working with restaurants and caterers to coordinate donations of prepared foods.
Our SAFB Community Kitchen has a capacity 7,500 per day. We are asking for donations of product to prepare three meals a day to the evacuees.
Most needed items: pasta, canned meat, rice, beans, cereal, and individually wrapped snacks.
History of Disaster Relief
During the hurricane relief efforts of 2005, the San Antonio Food Bank coordinated with the City of San Antonio, the American Red Cross, and the Salvation Army to provide food to the evacuees arriving in our city.
Most recently, when residents fled the gulf coast from Hurricane Gustav, the San Antonio Food Bank provided three meals a day to the 1,200 evacuees at the various shelters.
How to Help
Donate Food – call 210-431-8310 if you are in the food industry and want to donate meals or product. Also, anyone can drop off donations at our warehouse at 5200 Old Highway 90 W, on the corner of Old Highway 90 and Highway 151
Donate Time – Volunteers are needed to sort through product, pick up donations, and prepare food in our Community Kitchen. Call 210-431-8311 to find out more info.
