Item:Affiliation: Solidarity Economy / Alternative Economies / On-going Mutual Aid
Notes: At this page [scroll down to] find a list of enterprises and organizations which have a commitment to people, planet, and peace... as opposed to a commitment to profit-first.
They are geographically organized, user determined, communities of enterprises and organizations that are focused on "solidarity" rather than profit.
Please be patient as we develop this list. Some "traditional" non-profit orgs with patriarchal structures, are listed, which may not be transparent as to how resources are distributed/shared. They may not have a stated commitment to low-profit (incl low executive pay). But they are included on this list, if they have ANY non-$-based, walk-in offerings that do not require "registration/approval-by-committee".
We hope that by encouraging inclusiveness in our "Solidarity Economy" definition we will invite more orgs to participate and help create change sooner.
As the number of orgs on this list grows, we believe that the list will have more stringent criteria for orgs being listed... We also plan to map the orgs and make it easier to add items, etc [know a developer who might want to volunteer?]
The goal so far is to have a solid list of orgs that NEVER require paperwork to get help and exist mostly outside of the currency exchange system (no money economy). Until that happens, we believe that the Solidarity Economy must have some traditional offerings for critical needs like shelter and medical.
Once the SE has these, we can drop the traditional $-focused offerings off this list. To see listings of more traditional orgs, choose the "facilities/organization" button to the above left, and choose your state in the little "pull down menu" below to the left. As always if you want to participate in developing this list, the definition of what can be included, the tool, or whatever, contact us. All efforts toward a Solidarity Economy are welcome. All participation is voluntary and none of this information will be used for profit. Here is the Wikipedia page for "Solidarity Economy". We make no claims as to whether this page accurately reflects anything on the list. We provide it for info only: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solidarity_economy
NOTE: this category is different than the COVID-19 "Mutual Aid" groups that are popping up. While we LOVE that these groups are popping up, and they are listed in our COVID 19 listing [see Quickstart above right], IF those groups do not speak to an on-going need/commitment to "mutual aid" in general, then they are listed ONLY on the COVID-19 response list
