=======================================
Tabasco, Mexico

Days of rain and unusually large waves off the coast have inundated the state of Tabasco causing the largest natural disaster in recent Mexican history. 70 percent of the state is flooded and more than 700,000 homes under water. 300,000 people are still stranded as the Mexican
government rescues them from rooftops.

The National Presbyterian Church of Mexico (INPM) has a strong and well-trained disaster response team in Tabasco that is responding to this crisis. The presbytery office is now sheltering more than 1,000 people.
Many of the state's regular shelters were evacuated after floodwaters overtook them.
==================================

LATIN AMERICA FLOODS: Rescue efforts continue in southern Mexico as the worst floods to hit the low-lying part of the country for 50 years begin to recede. More than 30,000 people have been evacuated by army and navy teams in helicopters or boats, but army officials estimate that around 80,000 people are still trapped in their flooded homes in the state of Tabasco. Overall, 800,000 are thought to have been made homeless.
