Post #4 - TEMPORARY HOUSING:
Temporary housing options for flood victims: short-term and long-term
SHELTER AT HOME: The Shelter at Home Program evaluates each applicant’s home and, if up to $15,000 of work in that home can create a safe, secure, habitable place for the family to live while they continue their permanent home rebuilding, then that applicant may be eligible for this program. This program is not designed to fully repair the applicant's home
Residents who are eligible for the program should register using one of the following methods:
By phone: 1-800-927-0216
Online: shelterathome.la.gov
For more information about the Shelter at Home program, click here.
FEMA assistance will be in two parts:
Part 1 - FEMA will issue 30 day housing vouchers for eligible people. You need to go to the website www.DisasterAssistance.gov to register for housing vouchers or other transitional housing funds. Applicants for housing vouchers must be able to prove they are living in a hotel, shelter or at their place of employment. If you are already registered, they will call you very soon. If you are staying at your home with friends or family, you are not eligible.
Part 2 - FEMA is calling on all privately owned rental properties to get more properties on the market. **They are working on longer term options** among those options are mobile homes, not trailers. They will decide by next Wednesday how they will implement that program. You can visit www.lahousingsearch.org for more information.
After up to 14 days in a hotel or motel you may receive an extension if you’re still unable to return home. If you’re able to get back home, move to longer-term housing or if a FEMA housing inspector determines your home is habitable, you may no longer be eligible for the TSA.
FEMA will contact you every day to keep you updated about your continued eligibility. Be sure to keep your contact information current so you’ll receive these calls. Update your information online at DisasterAssistance.gov or call the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362. (If they do not contact you, continue to contact them.)
FEMA housing assistance, or rental assistance, covers the next step in a survivor’s post-disaster housing journey. FEMA covers an apartment or other rental while the person’s home is repaired.
APARTMENTS: For a listing of available apartments that did not flood, please visit www.lahousingsearch.org to both find and list available properties. You can also view listings at www.MLSbox.com.
