City Strings is a 501(c)3 stringed instrument learning program that is offered to youth in the inner city who do not have access to it, for lack of funding. The instrument and classes are offered at no charge to participants.

The goal of the City Strings program is to show youth from struggling communities that they are just as capable of accomplishing greatness as those from more affluent areas. Through City Strings, youth from underrepresented communities find that, with hard work and dedication, they can surpass even their own expectations. Children shine at their performances, amongst proud families and community members, where their dedication, practice, and determination pay off. These are lessons that can carry them through life.

At City Strings, students are taught how to play the cello, read music, collaborate with other musicians, and perform in a public setting. We focus on developing a student's tone and technique. Each student receives individual and group instruction.

Focus areas include:

* Practice regimen

* Bowing and fingering technique

* Music vocabulary

* Musician etiquette

* Ensemble performance
