INEZ, Ky. - Lee Gauze, Director of the Martin County Emergency Management, has released information concerning the cleanup process following the March 2 tornado that damaged over 120 homes, some of which, were completely destroyed.
Our county has suffered much devastation and loss,” said Gauze. “Over the past few days, I have witnessed the overwhelming strength of the people of Martin County in their heartfelt response to our friends and neighbors in need.”
“We’re very blessed to have caring, helpful residents in our communities that are willing to roll up their sleeves, grab a shovel and start working.”
“For any of our residents affected by the tornado that find themselves in immediate need of shelter, clothing, food or water, by all means give us a call at 606-298-2088.”
As Gauze and his personnel begin the clean-up process of the immense damage caused by the tornado, there are sites that have been designated as dump areas. The Old Cline Trailer Court, located north of Lovely on Rt. 292, across from the Calvary Temple Church is accepting trees, tree limbs and untreated wood only. Hazardous materials will be picked up in the Lovely and Beauty areas by Enviro-Pro.
The Martin County Fairgrounds, located on Rt. 645 in Inez is accepting all storm related trash and debris. The site will be marked and identified for storm related debris, in addition to a special container for chemicals and other hazardous materials such as paint, cleaning supplies, etc.
Volunteers will be out in full force today, assisting in various ways with the clean-up process. The Emergency Management and FEMA have completed their initial assessment of the storm damage and have applied for a federal disaster declaration. Once this declaration has been granted, federal assistance will be available to affected individuals.
