Iowa and Nebraska
American Red Cross: established two Disaster Relief Operations (DRO) for counties in Iowa and Nebraska. The DRO headquartered in Council Bluffs is covering all counties in Nebraska and some flood impacted counties in southwest Iowa. Another DRO, headquartered in Pierre, SD, is covering counties in NW Iowa. At this time, both DROs have placed a number of shelters on standby in both Iowa and Nebraska and have several shelters open with an overnight population of 6.
Iowa VOAD: Provided information to the American Red Cross, enabling them to locate individuals displaced from Hamburg who are currently camping outside the flood affected area. The Red Cross is providing mobile feeding to this campsite.
Orphan Grain Train: delivered a truckload of water to Sioux City and Joplin and is in the process of collecting materials for clean-up kits.
The Salvation Army: placed its canteen division on standby, and is collecting materials for clean-up kits.
United Way / 211 Omaha: fielding calls regarding flood preparation and evacuation plans. The organization is also working with local emergency management to identify additional services that may be needed as flood prep and response continue.
Missouri
ACPSA: continues to operate several Emergency Animal Shelters for Joplin including a cat shelter, dog shelter and medical shelter.
American Red Cross: continues to maintain a Disaster Relief Operation in Joplin. One Red Cross shelter remains open. Red Cross continues to provide case work, health and mental health outreach, and bulk distribution to the area.
AmeriCorps: continues to be the lead agency for volunteer coordination on the ground and is the lead for collection of volunteer data. To date the following volunteer hours have been tracked: 32,004 days of volunteer labor and 152,210 hours of assistance provided. Using an estimated value of $20.00 per hour this equates to over $3 million in volunteer assistance provided to the Joplin area.
Convoy of Hope: established a resource center at 3000 S. Rangeline Drive. This center has consolidated many commodities from PODs around the city and is operating a store containing cleanup materials, food, and clothing. The store hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday, closed Sunday and Monday.
Lutheran Disaster Services: coordinating an impressive weekend volunteer effort. Each weekend, LDS is bringing in between 250 and 500 volunteers to assist with clean-up and debris removal efforts.
Missouri Food Bank Association: delivering between 2 and 3 truckloads of food a day to the Joplin area. Food is being distributed through local food pantry affiliates such as Ozarks Food Harvest.
United Way / 211 Kansas City: received over 5,000 calls and identified more than 6,700 needs through these calls. 211 is serving as a clearing house for referral information and also helping to manage donations through messaging and entry into the AidMatrix system.
7th Day Adventists, AmeriCorps, local community organizations, and other partners are operating 4 warehouses to respond to the outpouring of donations that have flooded the area from around the country. The Donations Hotline (855-624-4261) has been transitioned to the local AmeriCorps-run hotline at (417-625-3542). The total value of donations processed through the NDMS (Missouri portal) is $1,500,000.

The American Red Cross is currently responding to events in Alabama (tornado), Arizona (Wildfires), California (Hazardous Material), Kentucky (Severe Weather), Iowa (Flooding), Massachusetts (tornado), Missouri (tornado, Flooding), Montana (flooding), Nebraska (Flooding), North Dakota (flooding), South Dakota (flooding), Tennessee (Flooding), and Vermont (flooding).

Alabama (Tornado): Operation headquarters has transitioned responsibilities to local Red Cross chapters.
Arizona (Wildfires): There is one Red Cross Network shelter open with 59 overnight stays. The Red Cross is working in coordination with Tribal communities in response to wildfires on tribal lands.
California (Hazardous Material): Red Cross deployed Disaster Action Team members, opened and Evacuation Center and provided canteen services to emergency responders.
Kentucky (Severe Weather): Two Red Cross supported independent shelters were opened. Red Cross communicated with county and state Emergency Operations Centers and collaborated with organizations for Mass Care provision.
Iowa (Flooding): One Red Cross Network shelter is open with three overnight stays. Red Cross continues to closely monitor this event and move assets into area in case flooding worsens.
Massachusetts (Tornado): One Red Cross Network shelter is operational with 121 overnight stays. Red Cross Disaster Assessment is almost complete and shows about 597 destroyed and major affected homes, 656 minor and 25 inaccessible. Red Cross is partnering with several agencies including Catholic Charities, Goodwill, and The Salvation Army.
Missouri (Joplin Tornado): 1 Red Cross Network shelter with one overnight stay. Red Cross continues with feeding, lots of bulk distribution, casework, health and mental health contacts. Red Cross is partnering with numerous agencies especially at the Multi Agency Recovery Center.
Montana (Flooding): One Red Cross Network shelter is open within the Crow Nation with 36 overnight stays. Red Cross is partnering with several affected Native American communities especially the Crow Nation. There are approximately 800 homes that remain inaccessible, mainly in Blaine Roosevelt counties. Red Cross is focused on sheltering, feeding, and conducting health services.
Nebraska (East, Flooding): One Red Cross Network shelter is open with a total of zero overnight stays. Red Cross continues to closely monitor this event and move assets into area in case flooding worsens.
North Dakota (Flooding): Red Cross continues to closely monitor this event and move assets into area in case flooding worsens.
South Dakota (Flooding): One Red Cross Network shelters are open with a total of zero overnight stays. Red Cross continues to closely monitor this event and move assets into area in case flooding worsens.
Tennessee (Flooding): One Red Cross Network shelter is open with a total of zero overnight stays. Red Cross continues to closely monitor this event and move assets into area.
Vermont (Northeast Flooding): Red Cross is working with partner agencies to meet emergent needs as the community waits for flood waters to recede.
Brethren Disaster Ministries
Massachusetts: Children’s Disaster Services has been set up in the Red Cross Shelter in Springfield, Massachusetts. To date total of 6 volunteers have cared for 171 children. We continue to have volunteers on stand-by to work in FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers in Massachusetts or at flooding disasters as they unfold.
Missouri: Children’s Disaster Services has concluded its response in Joplin, MO, where 4 centers were open. Over the 3 week response, 26 CDS volunteers cared for 836 children.

Montana (Flooding): A HandsOn Network affiliate within the United Way of Yellowstone County is directing volunteers to available opportunities in the impacted counties and is on weekly VOAD calls and ready to support additionally as requested. Samaritan’s Purse
Alabama: Samaritan’s Purse continues to conduct chainsaw work and debris removal with the volunteer site in Tuscaloosa, AL. To date, there have been 8,247 volunteers. Out of a total of 1,382 work orders, 785 are complete, 123 remain open, and 474 were completed by other organizations.
Missouri: Samaritan’s Purse continues its response in Joplin. To date, there have been 5,328 volunteers. Out of a total of 960 work orders, 589 are complete, 160 remain open, and 206 were completed by other organizations.
Southern Baptist Convention/NAMB
Massachusetts: The operation in Brimfield, MA will be closing down at the end of the week. Chainsaw teams from Florida and Pennsylvania/South Jersey will be working to complete the requests for assistance this week. An Incident Command team from the Northwest Baptist Convention has been assisting with the coordination of the work in Brimfield since last weekend and will remain onsite until the end of the week.
Michigan: Chainsaw teams from Louisiana, Illinois and Ohio have been in Battle Creek helping Michigan Baptists with cleanup efforts. The teams have completed 182 chainsaw jobs.
Mississippi: MS Disaster Relief is supporting Red Cross feeding operations in three locations. Volunteers are preparing meals at North Greenwood Baptist Church, Greenwood, MS; Woodlawn Baptist Church, Vicksburg, MS; and First Baptist Church, Natchez, MS where a Chic-fil-A kitchen is set up. Mississippi Baptist DR leaders expect to continue feeding through Sunday. Mudout training is being offered at First Baptist Church, Vicksburg, MS. Missouri: Work in Joplin continues to help residents and the community recover from the tornado.
Vermont: Operations in the Barre area, where teams have been working for three weeks are closing down this weekend. The volunteers in Barre have completed 26 mudout jobs and the Maryland/Delaware laundry unit has cleaned 97 loads of clothes over the three weeks.
Operations in Williston (Burlington region) have begun. Mudout teams from Florida and Texas Baptist Men are joining those from Southern Baptists of Texas Convention who arrived last week. A feeding team from Pennsylvania/South Jersey has been preparing meals and Incident command staff members from Illinois, Louisiana and Southern Baptist Conservatives of Virginia have been assisting New England IC team members in the operation. Teams from California, Maryland/Delaware, and Ohio are making plans to respond in the coming weeks. Work in the Burlington area is anticipated to continue for some time.
The Salvation Army
Georgia: In response to relief from wildfires in southern Georgia’s Okefenokee Swamp region, The Salvation Army concluded its feeding service to Brantley, Camden, and Charlton County firefighters working to snuff out multiple and migrating blazes. The canteen (mobile feeding unit) which was deployed from The Salvation Army’s Vidalia Service Center served emergency and disaster personnel from June 16 - 18 and provided a total of 735 meals, 100 sandwiches, and 451 snacks. 25 first aid kits were distributed. 9 employees served 56 hours and 17 volunteers served 56 hours in this response.
Iowa: The Salvation Army of Siouxland (the region surrounding Sioux City, IA) began its emergency flood response on May 30 by deploying mobile feeding units to Dakota Dunes, South Dakota, Sioux City and throughout Dakota County, Nebraska. Since May 30, The Salvation Army served 21,000 people with 11,000 meals and more than 20,000 snacks. Over 220 volunteers contributed nearly 2,000 hours to the relief operations.
After the tornado in Moville and Smithville, Iowa last night, the Sioux City Salvation Army responded immediately to assist approximately 100 clean-up workers on the scene.
Kentucky: The Kentucky Division of Emergency Management has reported evacuations in City of Grayson, in Carter County near the Northeastern border of Kentucky. The cause is reported to be a natural gas leak. The Kentucky & Tennessee Division of The Salvation Army is monitoring the situation closely in conjunction with State and local officials. EDS response vehicles and trained crews in Carter County and nearby Ashland, Kentucky have been placed on standby.
The flash flooding in Middlesboro, coupled with the continued threat of severe weather has Salvation Army personnel keeping a watchful eye on surrounding areas and local communities. The mobile feeding unit (canteen) based in Knoxville, Tennessee has been dispatched to augment The Salvation Army’s response effort for those impacted by the flooding. Other units in The Salvation Army’s EDS response fleet remain on standby to assist if called upon. The Salvation Army’s response to this disaster is still evolving, but it is likely to include hot, nutritious meals provided to the established shelter as well as another site to better serve those displaced by the flood water, along with snacks and cold drinks. Additionally, there are plans for distributing clean-up kits.
Mississippi: The Salvation Army’s response to flooding continues in areas affected by the rising waters of the Mississippi and Yazoo Rivers. The Salvation Army opened a warehouse to distribute food, household items, hygiene kits, and bulk cleaning supplies for to residents of flooded areas. To date over 2,600 people have received assistance in this region. Over 2,600 food boxes to feed a family for two weeks have been distributed utilizing primarily donated food. Additionally, each family received bulk cleaning supplies and kits to assist in their clean-up.
The Salvation Army’s Case managers continue to identify resources that are available to flood survivors. Additionally, Salvation Army volunteers, officers and staff are prepared to provide emotional and spiritual care. Over 3,200 hours of volunteer service has been logged in assistance to flood survivors providing assistance as well as emotional and spiritual care to over 620 people.
Nebraska: The Salvation Army Western Division, based in Omaha, Nebraska, is coordinating plans for disaster relief operations in the Omaha Metro area, including Council Bluffs, as flood waters continue to rise along the Missouri River. Beginning this week, the Omaha Salvation Army will begin feeding workers along the Missouri riverfront as they monitor flood activity. Lunches will be provided by The Salvation Army Kroc Center and delivered daily. This operation is expected to continue for at least two months and feed approximately 50-60 people per day. The Omaha Salvation Army has partnered with the Omaha Fire Department, Action News 3, Journal Broadcast Radio, Two Men and A Truck, Mayflower and CBSHOME Real Estate to collect supplies for clean-up kits which will be distributed throughout the Western Division in the coming weeks and months. Items most needed include bottled water, Gatorade, rubber gloves, buckets, disinfectant, brushes, brooms, mops and safety goggles.

Illinois VOAD
The Illinois VOAD is holding weekly conference calls regarding the long term recovery in Southern Illinois. Representatives from Presbyterian Disaster Response, American Red Cross, Illinois Coalition of Community Services, Adventists, Illinois Baptist State Association, Anglican Disaster Response, Lutheran Disaster Response Illinois and FEMA joined call on June 13th.
A quick update on the situation
Since the 14-county federal declaration, there have been 779 registrations and 32 are max grants. A team of Voluntary Agency Liaisons (VALs) has arrived; the Joint Field Office is located in Marion, IL. The VALs urge that the message of registration is promoted, as well as completing the SBA package.
