11 months post Haiti earthquake. 1.3 million still under tarps and tattered tents.
My focus has been on orphanages. Getting them food, supplies, and trying to make a dent or difference in a few lives verses trying to serve so many no one feels the impact.
10/10. Cholera. It's a monstrous beast. Nearly two solid months of coordinating supplies, directing volunteers to staff medical sites, working with many organizations to deliver help. The Citizen Action Team Relief Database volunteers have been working non-stop, nearly 24/7 trying to save lives. We do our best.
There are many challenges that stand in the way. Impassable roads, lack of resources, voodoo, donor fatigue, slow governmental processes, corrupt governmental processes....but we carry on....it's just what we do. Paycheck or not, we can't not do it. It's a hard path to be chosen for but we've accepted the call.
I can assist your organization or private business/donor in coordinating donation matches as well as provide information and resources to disaster survivors, first responders and long term disaster recovery committee's and organizations.
Currently, most of my volunteer service work time is being spent as the acting VP of Administration, Executive Committee member, and Case Management Sub-Committee support for the San Fernando Valley Long Term Recovery Group Committee's which serves survivors of the Marek, Sesnon and Sayre Wildfires
of Fall '08 in So. California.
Come visit my SoCal/San Diego '07 Wildfire blog where you'll find a myriad of news, resources, information, etc.:

(show/hide changes)Thu Dec 16 06:47:38 +0000 2010 by LTel:notes: 1/25/10: I am seeking Haiti information gatherers and data entry volunteers URGENTLY. Please contact me at: leslie @citizenactionteam.org or 818-360-2518 if you are comfortable doing internet research, making phone calls, entering information into the database. Brief training will be provided, so you need not be concerned with how much time this will take. Whether it's an hour a day or 20 hours in a week you can provide, you will make a significant impact on aid/relief to Haiti. This is perfect for the volunteer candidate that can't afford to help with monetary donations, but has time to offer.
THANK YOU!
In Solidarity,

I am here to serve as one of the Help Desk representatives for the
Citizen Action Team Relief Database.
Currently I am active as a National Director for CAT, working closely with
any and all federally and state declared disasters (and smaller scale disasters as well).
I can assist your organization or private business/donor in coordinating donation matches as well as provide information and resources to disaster survivors, first responders and long term disaster recovery committee's and organizations.
If you need assistance updating an existing facility record in the
database, would like to add your services or organization to the
database, or would like help navigating the database, I am in your service.
California.

Yours In Service,
Leslie -> 12/10:

M-Fri & Weekends
(Please don't call my number weekends before 11 a.m. CST or 12 p.m.
EST! I am on Westcoast time!)
I've been a virtual volunteer since just a few days post Katrina
and have been involved in many aspects of disaster relief and
recovery.
I've served as Assistant Program Director, Fundraising Director
and Guardian Angel for Katrina's Angels, collected numerous
contacts/support, resources and lead many relief projects.
So if anyone out there is in need of a resource for a specific
need (ie. folks with disabilities, individual grants, displaced,
disaster recovery/rebuilding, supplies, food, etc.), please
peruse the database. If you don't find what you need, email me
and I will do my utmost to steer you to an agency, donor or
organization that can assist you.
Currently my service work focus is volunteering on the Citizen
Action Team Relief Database. My main functions/assignments as a
core virtual volunteer is updating facility entries, assisting
volunteers seeking opportunities to be in service to the
Gulf Coast and beyond as a Virtual Volunteer (wherever there is
a need for Disaster and/or Humanitarian Relief), and
orienting new database users.
I also respond to disasters by doing assessments for initial
first response needs and registering them in the database.
We've coordinated efforts with FEMA, VOAD's, first responder's
and LTRC's in Americus, GA, Enterprise, AL, Greensburg, KS
and of course the Gulf since early on post Katrina to assure
delivery of supplies and services as well as uncovering the
unmet needs of overlooked area's of disaster affected
communities.
If you would like to learn how to 'Register Your Hometown' in the
CAT Relief Database, please contact me by email. It's truly a very
simple training process that will have a significant impact on
your community in a disaster (as well as meeting the everyday
humanitarian needs). We now have international volunteers so
coverage is NOT limited to the United States!
From my perspective, the Relief Database is a revolutionary tool
that is aiding and enhancing response to natural and man-made
disasters globally in a significant and ground breaking way. It's a
beautiful thing as an average citizen to have this opportunity to
take a pro-active approach to disaster recovery and make a
difference in the world!

someone who can!
Currently my focus is volunteering on the Citizen Action Team

volunteer is updating Volunteer Camps information, assisting
volunteers seeking opportunities to be in service to the
Gulf Coast and beyond (wherever there is a need for Disaster
and/or Humanitarian Relief), and orienting/training new database
volunteers.
If you know of a Volunteer Camp Facility (or any organization or
facility) that is not listed in the Relief Database that serves
disaster/humanitarian area's in the United States, please feel
free to contact me by email. It would be very helpful to have
good coverage of these facilities on record so that the many people
from all over the country (and the world) who come here seeking
assistance for their needs (or to share their supplies/services,
etc.) has the most updated and comprehensive information at their
fingertips. The Volunteer Camps will benefit greatly from having
exposure of their needs and availibility of services and volunteer
openings listed.
When contacting me with new information to list in the Relief
Database, it's a big help to me if you include a contact name,
contact email address, and/or a website address as well as any
basic details about the volunteer camp and/or facility/organization.
If you have only one of those things, all of them, or none it doesn't
matter. I will 'hunt down' the information required to get them loaded
into the database, but of course it's a great time saver for me
to have as much information as possible.
If you are a Volunteer Group/Camp that wants assistance in
uploading your information yourself (this gives you the ability
to do your own future updating and information changes as they
come up), please feel free to make contact with me and I would
be happy to assist you through the process. It really is simple
and will take very little of your time. It's truly an advantage
to have control over your own record to assist you in coordinating
efforts with efficiency and accuracy.
If you are someone working with a Volunteer Camp that has an
EXISTING record in the database, but would like to be shown
and given 'write access' to update your own information/entries,
please contact myself or Terra Friederichs to make that happen.
One of the other projects I am working on for the Relief Database
is the development of written volunteer training guidelines. If
you are a volunteer on the database and have input or insights
you'd like to add, please contact me. It's important to receive
feedback and your personal perspective/experience in utilizing
the database for a smooth training process. I appreciate any and
all contributions. Terra Friederichs ultimately reviews any drafts
and approves the guidelines for release.
I am in the Los Angeles, CA region and will be instrumental in
assisting with the organization and maintenance of the hub location
in this area for warehousing and transporting donations to disaster
locations for humanitarian and disaster relief once it is in place.
Periodically, I will be putting up available items for donation.
If I have it and you need it, let's coordinate!

etc.) has the most updated and comprehensive information at their
If you are someone working with a Volunteer Camp that has an
EXISTING record in the database, but would like to be shown
and given 'write access' to update your own information/entries,
please contact myself or Terra Friederichs.
One of the other projects I am working on for the Relief Database
is the development of written volunteer training guidelines. If
you are a volunteer on the database and have input or insights
you'd like to add, please contact me. It's important to receive
feedback and your personal perspective/experience in utilizing
the database for a smooth training process. I appreciate any and
all contributions. Terra Friederichs ultimately reviews any drafts
and approves the guidelines for release.
I am in the Los Angeles, CA region and will be instrumental in
assisting with the organization and maintenance of the hub location
in this area for warehousing and transporting donations to disaster
locations for humanitarian relief.
Periodically, I will be putting up available items for donation.

I've been a virtual volunteer since just a few days post Katrina
and have been involved in many aspects of disaster relief.
I've served as Assistant Program Director, Fundraising Director
and Guardian Angel for Katrina's Angels, collected numerous
contacts/support, resources and lead many relief projects.
So if anyone out there is in need of a contact for a specific need
(ie. people with disabilities, individual grants, resources for
displaced, etc.), please feel free to email me with your request
and I will do my utmost to steer you to an agency or organization
that can assist you. If I cannot help you, it's likely I know
someone who can!
Currently my focus is volunteering on the Citizen Action Team
Relief Database. My main function/assignment as a core virtual
volunteer is updating Volunteer Camps information, assisting
volunteers seeking opportunities to be in service to the
Gulf Coast and beyond (wherever there is a need for Disaster
and/or Humanitarian Relief), and orienting/training new database

(Please don't call my number weekends before 11 a.m. CST or 12 p.m.
EST! I am on Westcoast time!)
I've been a virtual volunteer since just a few days post Katrina
and have been involved in many aspects of disaster relief.
Currently my focus is volunteering on this Resource Database.
My main function/assignment is updating Volunteer Camps information
and assisting volunteers seeking opportunities to be in service on
the Gulf Coast.
If you know of a Volunteer Camp Facility not listed in the database
that serves disaster area's in the United States and/or the Gulf
Region, please feel free to contact me by email. It would be very
helpful to have good coverage of these facilities on record so that
the many people from all over the country (and the world) who come
here seeking information about volunteer opportunites has the most
updated information at their fingertips. The camps will benefit
greatly from having exposure of their needs and availibility of
services and volunteer opensings listed.
When contacting me with new information (a camp not listed in the
database), it's a big help to me if you include a contact name,
contact email address, and/or a website address as well as any
basic details about the volunteer camp/group. If you have only
one of those things, all of them, or none it doesn't matter. I
will 'hunt down' the information required to get them loaded
into the database, but of course it's a great time saver for me
to have as much information as possible.
If you are someone working with a Volunteer Camp that has an
EXISTING record in the database, but would like to be shown and
given access to update your own information/entries, please
contact myself or Dayle Nugent (see her entry as a virtual volunteer
in the database).
One of the other projects I am working on for the Relief Database
is the development of written volunteer training guidelines. If
you are a volunteer on the database and have input or insights
you'd like to add, please contact me. It's important to receive
feedback and your personal perspective/experience in utilizing
the database for a smooth training process. I appreciate any and
all contributions. Terra Friederichs ultimately reviews any drafts
and approves the guidelines for release. Volunteer guidelines are
strictly for internal use.
I am in the Los Angeles, CA region and will be instrumental in
assisting with the organization and maintenance of the hub location
in this area for warehousing and transporting donations to disaster
locations for humanitarian relief.
Periodically, I will be putting up available items for donation. If I have it and you need it, let's coordinate!
Thanks for being in service!
