Gleaning For The World seeks to provide urgently needed and life-saving support to communities in critical need throughout the world through the responsible application of a powerful concept that we call “gleaning.” By gleaning we mean that, from a host of generous corporate donors, we collect surplus medical and other essential supplies which we then, are able to distribute where humanitarian help is needed worldwide.
Our ability to both glean and distribute humanitarian help is due entirely to the generosity of additional thousands of individual donors. To insure that our humanitarian help arrives at its destination as quickly as possible and at the least possible cost, GFTW employs its experience and expertise to provide expedited distribution channels, logistical support and reliable and timely communication with both our corporate and individual donors. We believe that all God’s children are deserving of compassionate and reliable humanitarian help, regardless of ethnic, religious or cultural background.

WHAT WE DO -
For Humanitarian Organizations -
Humanitarian organizations have a tough job reaching and providing care for those in desperate need. Often, they must use urgently needed funds to locate, store, sort, inventory and ship supplies to people working in the field. A study completed by Gleaning For The World demonstrated that it costs the average organization tens of thousands of dollars per 40-foot container of product to manage the supplies, even if the products have been donated. This is where Gleaning For The World becomes an invaluable asset.
Gleaning For The World does not have its own mission projects. We partner with other humanitarian organizations to provide and manage supplies, saving them thousands of dollars in desperately needed funds each year. Our expertise in international aid delivery, including tight quality control, detailed documentation and a global network of resources, ensures that goods successfully make their way through customs and to their intended recipient.
Product Procurement
Using a professional staff, proficient supply chains, and an army of volunteers, GFTW can locate supplies, sort, inventory and load containers for less than one percent of the value of the product. The types of products GFTW typically offers include:
■Medical Supplies (first aid supplies, over-the-counter medications)
■Surgical Supplies (surgical kits and instruments)
■Medical Equipment (hospital beds, gurneys, dental chairs, x-ray units, etc.)
■Food and Drink (nutrition bars, vitamins, bottled water, nutritional drinks)
■Shoes (new shoes of various types)
Product Management
For organizations that have received donated products, GFTW provides management services including sorting the supplies, providing inventory control, and warehousing the product until the shipment is needed — all for less than what most non-profit organizations pay for warehouse staff. The product remains the property of the non-profit as does donor information.

Gleaning For The World rapidly reponds to natural disasters here in the United States and overseas. Critical supplies are loaded and shipped only hours after an earthquake, hurricane, tornado, flood, winter storm or other deadly disaster strikes. Our Disaster Network reaches across the globe to other organizations, companies and individuals who help Gleaning meet the needs.
Gleaning For The World is anticipating an active hurricane season as the NOAA predicts 14 storms to develop and 7 to become major hurricanes. The magnitude of storms predicted will affect the livelihood of many people, not only in the coastal regions, but inland. Help us to help you prepare.
Supplies that are needed include non-perishable food, personal care items, baby products, cleaning supplies, and paper products.
Mobile Medical Clinic -
One of the most difficult challenges in providing medical care to impoverished communities or disaster areas is getting there. Refugee camps are rarely located on main roads. People with AIDS are often too weak to travel to a city for treatment. Hurricanes and other natural disasters can cripple stationary medical facilities and destroy roads and bridges. And epidemics are best contained when people remain in place.
In response, Gleaning For The World has developed the Mobile Medical Clinic (MMC) to address many of the challenges faced by organizations providing medical care to the world’s most impoverished people — starting with getting there. Conventional mobile clinics are impractical in areas where roads are rough or non-existent. The MMC is designed to withstand the rigors of travel on rugged roads and can be transported by helicopter to remote areas or places where roads have been destroyed by natural disaster.
Designed for use in the mission field, the MMC’s standard configuration includes:
■Three water tanks (total capacity 100 gallons) for clean, safe water
■Charcoal filtration system that allows water to be continuously resupplied
■On-board water heater for almost instant hot water. Maintains water temperature during use.
■60-cycle generator with a deep-cycle emergency battery back-up system. Doctors are able to use the instruments they are comfortable with, eliminating the need to change electric cycles.
The MMC can be customized to meet the needs of your organization — whether to provide a specific type of medical care, to be used for food service in areas of famine or disaster, or to provide clean, filtered water. GFTW can also stock the MMC with medical supplies and equipment at less than one percent of their estimated value.

Volunteer -
Each month, hundreds of volunteers provide assistance at Gleaning For The World. They come from various community organizations, Boy and Girl Scout troops, churches and youth groups, and vary in age and background. But all of them have one thing in common: the desire to make a difference in the lives of hurting people.
Volunteers serve in many ways, including:
■Sorting medical supplies
■Repackaging donated product
■Packing stuffed animals
■Sorting and boxing new clothing and shoes
■Answering the phone
■Sending e-mails
■Preparing mailings
… and more.
These volunteers make it possible for GFTW to save thousands of dollars in staff time — savings we pass on to the humanitarian and mission organizations we serve.
