The Haitian American Friendship Foundation (HAFF) was established in the early ’80’s with a secondary school serving the Bohoc community of the Central Plateau.


Today the ministry has grown to include work in Christ-centered academic and community education, human development, and medical mercy ministries. The campus is located on the Central Plateau of Haiti where it serves an area with a radius of 12 miles. Depending on the HAFF staff and finances on hand, ministries vary from year to year.

Medical Clinic.
Staffed by two Haitian auxiliary nurses, this small dispensary serves the needs of the school and community three days per week. A pre-natal clinic is held one day per week.

Dental Clinic.
Staffed by American dentist Dr. Jerry Pennington and Haitian technicians he has trained, the clinic is open about five months per year. Services include cleaning, extractions, fillings and making dentures.

Eyeglass Clinic.
One day per week the public can get their eyes checked and fitted for affordable eyeglasses.

Milk Program for Malnourished Children.
A glass of protein rich, full-cream milk and a multivitamin is provided daily to local malnourished children.

Hospital Runs.
The HAFF vehicles are routinely used as a neighborhood ambulance service responding to emergencies which need the assistance of the Hospital in Pignon.

Home Visitation.
An important part of the HAFF mercy ministries is to visit people in their homes to encourage and pray for them. It is customary among the rural Christian community in Haiti to go to the home of of someone who has recently lost a loved one or has suffered an illness. Usually some words of encouragement are shared as well and Scriptural passage or two read and maybe a song is sung. It is a great way to share the love of God with a family or individual in need.

Cholera is now in the Pignon area. There have been several deaths in the area attributed to Cholera -- one young boy from LaPila (between HAFF and Pignon) died at the Pignon hospital. Another child from across the Bouyaha River died at the clinic in LaJeune (less than a mile from HAFF). Finally, closest to home, an elderly woman and her grandson from Bohoc just died this week. HAFF has already responded in two ways to the crisis and is preparing to respond in a couple more ways.
