Little did he know that a massive earthquake was about to hit Port-au-Prince. Bro. Sanders was there with him. Although the quake didn't affect LeCanta, it did create a situation where supplies of necessary food etc. were cut off leaving the people there without sufficient food and other important items. Bro. Jeff was able to make it back to the States with the help of the US Air Force You can help in a big way by making money available so that we can purchase supplies in the Dominican Republic and truck them to the mission at Le Canta Our goal now is to ship large quantities of non-perishable food such as rice, beans oil, salmon, salt. fish, sugar, canned food, peanut butter, clothing, medical supplies etc.from Santa Domingo, this we can do as you supply the money. There are no schools at present in Port-au-Prince. They will be closed at least till the end of the year. Voice of Christ in Haiti plans to take children from Port-au-Prince to our mission in Le Canta which is about 200 miles distance. We will also take injured people there for medical treatment as well as those suffering from starvation and malnutrition. Many young people are in danger from gangs and rapists so we plan to take many of them for safe keeping. So you can see why we need large quantities of food and supplies immediately. We need to say that in spite of the wonderful work other organizations are doing to help the people of Haiti, they are virtually all aimed at the population around Port-au-Prince. The people in the countryside haven't been affected in the same way as the population in the big city, but they have been deeply affected by the cut off of supplies of food and other commodities which are essential to life in general. We've watched with a mixture of abject horror and joy as we've seen the multiplied thousands that have been buried in mass graves and at the miraculous rescues after even eleven days.
