notes: Little Children of Jesus Orphanage for Disabled Children The Little Children of Jesus (LCJ) is an orphanage for disabled children. It is a facility of Food for The Poor that receives supplemental income from The Lazarus Project. In Haiti, many of God’s children do not have the support of a family due to their disability. Haitian families often do not have the income and resources to provide for the needs of the disabled, therefore an orphanage may be the only option. LCJ provides food, clothing, shelter, medical care and love to over 100 children with special needs. The facility has a school area and a teacher that provides basic education to the children that are well enough to participate. Children, whose cognitive ability is not compromised by their disability, attend a local school. A physical therapist provides massage and therapy to promote improved strength, range of motion and improved motor skills. Through visiting teams, The Lazarus Project provides much needed supplies as well as education and therapy support. In addition, medical and surgical needs are made possible by The Lazarus Project. A highlight in the lives of these special little children is a weekly visit from a local musician who plays accordion, sings and dances to brighten their day. Many team members who go there to minister to the children leave with the feeling that they are the ones who have been ministered to by the children. While these children's bodies and sometimes their minds are terribly mis-shapened, their spirits are so beautifully intact. No visitor yet has left there without being deeply touched by the smiles on their faces and the sheer joy they exude from simply being alive. All life is precious in God's eyes.
