Help groups are distributing hundreds of lunches and setting up relief canteens in and near Magee in Simpson County, the scene of massive tornado devastation early today.

With fresh flash-flood warnings looming, the Salvation Army served about 350 meals to area needy.

The agency reported its Jackson emergency canteen is stationed at the Magee central Fire Station at Main and 2nd streets and its Laurel canteen and two additional mobile units are set up and serving residents in areas of Mississippi 28 West — hardest hit by the EF-3 twister officials suspect ransacked Magee around 1 a.m.

“We have food on its way from Jackson to feed tonight and tomorrow if necessary," SA Major John Showers says. “We are waiting on the status of power returning to the area to make further decisions.”

The Salvation Army is taking donations of bottled water, hygiene products and money. Donations can be brought to The Salvation Army at 110 Presto Lane
in Jackson.
