The PMI works closely with the government in the fields of disaster preparedness and disaster relief, and is bound by government policy in other areas - for instance blood donor screening procedures. The patron of the PMI is the president of Indonesia. In working with the ICRC in troubled areas of the country the society has had no difficulty in maintaining its independence.
