Galveston residents were allowed to return “home” today. Although, “home” is quite a relative term.
IMPACT Ministries’ JD & Toni Smith, in collaboration with many local ministries, is opening NOW an outreach center for ministry in Galveston on Galveston Island, south of Houston, Texas. The center will house volunteers for serving the Hurricane Ike residents, a feeding center, a community distribution center for residents needed supplies, and daily worship space. Also, there will ongoing counseling and case management for the residents in the offices for IMPACT Ministries and its local, regional and national partners. This IMPACT Regional Ministry Center will serve the entire area south of Houston and Galveston Island.
Our second TEXAS volunteer center will also open this week in Beaumont, Texas with a collaboration formed there with the local churches, local government, and some of IMPACT’s other partners from around the country. Our first semi-load of supplies will arrive there this weekend. At 8:45 pm CDT Wednesday night, the mayor of Beaumont gave clearance for any and all activities that IMPACT desires for his city and the many surrounding towns and cities.
A team of volunteers from North Carolina has transported a kitchen trailer, and other equipment into the region. IMPACT is ready to take teams now and in within this very week can house a thousand people a day, in various locations across the Guf Coast in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
If you are a team leader or individual seeking further information or to see if specific dates are available please fill out the online inquiry here.
If we have already made initial contact and checked dates please download this form, make needed copies, and have every member of your team fill it out. Collect them all and mail them to us with your deposit check (one per team please) to confirm your registration. Teams are signing up for up to 6 months ahead of time, so please don’t delay. If you are signing up for more than a month prior to arrival you can send your deposit now and the balance a month before, with any additions. For further details please see our FAQ page.
If you are interested in forming a First Response team please let us know the following as soon as possible:
We need both skilled and unskilled people (if they are in good health and able to follow directions). Skilled people in areas of: plumbing, electrical, construction, mechanical, roofers, concrete, painting, big equipment, cooking, counseling, youth, children, business development, administration, fund raising, and grant writing.
We also are in need of long term volunteers.
IMPACT is in the midst of setting up a command base, volunteer center, and distribution site in Texas City, TX on Galveston Bay. This will allow us direct access to help residents when they return. This will be done in collaboration with other ministries, churches, networks and YOU the volunteers. The need is huge and it will take the Body of Christ working together to make an IMPACT.

IMPACT HURRICANE DISASTER RESPONSE
www.citiIMPACT.org
Responding to the imminent landfall of Hurricane Dean into
Texas and Mexico, our strategic partners have formed a
collaborative plan which is being implemented immediately.
As with previous hurricanes, Katrina and Rita, the affected
communities will need all of our assistance and the grace
of our Lord to overcome the difficulties of the disaster.
We have held off on this notice as late as possible, praying
that the storm would diminish, and now we need to press
forward. Hurricane Dean has already proven to be a killer.
As we know, hurricanes have a nasty habit of switching
directions. We urge you to strongly pray and prepare.
Our plan is multi-phased and hope to be well timed. As
we prepare for HURRICANE DEAN to make landfall we first
ask you to pray that lives would be spared. Then that we,
THE CHURCH, would be His Body for those that would be hurting.
Thus, we need to be ready and ask for you to let us know if
you can send a first response team.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED IMMEDIATELY
Would you send this information to everyone you know please.
Our database is extensive but we don't know everyone you
know. We all need each other and we really need you.
We are making arrangements for supply lines for the residents
affected. We have some housing arrangements for volunteers,
some food for volunteers, showers, etc. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT
THE FIRST VOLUNTEERS ON THE GROUND MUST ALSO BE PREPARED TO BE
SELF-CONTAINED AS WE COMPLETE SET-UP FOR OTHER VOLUNTEERS TO COME.
At this time, we are nearly prepared to set up service in
Texas, and final plans are near completion to push into Mexico
as required. Our partner base is also preparing for appropriate
response for Jamaica and the Carribean in general.
Needed:
Volunteers, skilled and less skilled too, able to be
self-contained for a while. Then following that a
consistent stream of volunteers for weeks or maybe
months to come. Truck drivers and rigs, cooks,
electricians, plumbers, carpenters, EMT's, nurses,
doctors, school teachers, counselors.
We have arranged to buy a $60,000 kitchen trailer that can serve
thousand of people daily. The unit was discounted to us for half of
that. We need to finish paying for it. $30,000 will help us pay it
off while serving up to 3000 meals a day. Please consider helping
us with the expense of this great tool.
Supplies of all sorts; basic needs, water, diapers, first-aid,
food, generators, chainsaws, tools, shovels, wheel barrows, bleach,
bleach, more bleach, mops, buckets, tents, bobcat type equipment
with forks, dump truck, back hoe and more.
If your church or ministry is near the potential strike zone,
please consider allowing it to be used for an evacuation center
or volunteer center. We truly believe in working with the local
church and ministries.
Of course, we could always use your financial support. Please
give generously. Every dollar goes towards caring for those
affected to save souls and lives.
Thank you for all you have done as we continue to serve in
Louisiana and Mississippi since 2005. Your help is still needed
and desired there.
Please pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers. Join with
us again in:
"Watching the Lord build His Church".
Grace to you,

Grace to you,
JD & Toni Smith, and partners nationwide
