CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Local restaurants are making sure students don’t go hungry while schools are closed for the next two weeks to help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.

Nearly half of Franklin County’s students participated in the free- and reduced-lunch program in the 2018-19 school year, according to Healthy Franklin County.

Chambersburg

Roy Pitz Beer Stube, 140 N. Third St., will provide free bagged lunches to school-aged children between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, beginningTuesday. The business is raising money to help support the endeavor.

Mercersburg

Romeo’s Cafe, 66 Church St., will offer a meal of two slices of pizza and a soda to students between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekdays.

St. Thomas

Pat and Carla’s II, 3218 Lincoln Way West, will offer free meals (slice of cheese pizza or a Bambino and a juice box) to St. Thomas Elementary students between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays through April 1 in cooperation with Sites Garage.
