53% OF WORKING-AGE ADULTS OR 3.8 MILLION PEOPLE IN LOS ANGELES CANNOT READ WELL ENOUGH TO USE A BUS SCHEDULE OR COMPLETE A JOB APPLICATION We want you! The Literacy Network of Greater Los Angeles and The Volunteer Center of Los Angeles are proud to present the Volunteer for Literacy Program. We can offer you a uniquely rewarding experience as a volunteer tutor for youth (ages 13-21) and adult learners. We have partner sites throughout Greater Los Angeles who need volunteers. Spend 2 hours a week as a tutor and change your life. No experience is necessary. We will train you to make a significant impact on the lives of adults and their families. Of course, your skills in basic reading, writing, math, job readiness and/or computers will only make you more effective. You can choose to work one-on-one or with a small group. As a volunteer, you will receive:

A professional 3-hour training to help you obtain new learning tools and activities to tutor with confidence

The support of program staff that will provide on-going assistance, resources, and encouragement throughout your volunteer experience

Follow-up trainings to grow in your skills as a tutor and discussion groups to network and share best practices with other volunteers in the program

Acknowledgement of your time and commitment to the program at our annual volunteer recognition event
