Notes:
On June 1, 2006, Metro United Methodist Urban Ministry (Metro) received a grant from the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to provide services to Katrina survivors who have relocated to San Diego. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, approximately 2,500 people were evacuated to the San Diego region. An approximate 50% of these still remain in the area of San Diego. Now, more than ever, Katrina survivors need assistance that this program will provide to transition from surviving to thriving.
The task of supporting Katrina’s evacuees is consistent with the mission of Metro. Through this program, Katrina evacuees will receive assistance with employment, training, childcare, housing, transportation, and other barriers they face in restructuring their lives. The goal is to have families continue to move to pre-Katrina levels and beyond.
