Notes:

The Hope Program for Men and Women is the most effective faith based alcohol and drug recovery program in this area. Through a thorough application process and careful assessment, we also receive inmates that are released into this program by the TDCJ parole board. Many have found that this atmosphere of loving, biblical training has led to successful integration back into mainstream society. Hundreds of lives have been transformed since 1951. Faith-based and licensed chemical dependency counselor provides weekly counseling sessions. Each Hope Program participant receives training in Bible studies, computer skills, recovery, anger management, overcoming failure, temptation, practical life skills and more.
The Hope for Men Program is 12 months in length and consists of the following levels:

Level 1: For the first month the men are confined to the grounds of the mission. They are required to learn The Beatitudes, understand the Fruit of the Spirit, memorize the Ten Commandments, and the 66 books of the Bible. They begin attending church. They must attend class twice each day and work for Faith City Ministries 7 days a week. This time is called the “Orientation” Phase. The men do not have telephone or visitation privileges in this phase.

Level 2: Called the “Recovery Phase”, this part of the program is 3 months long. Study material is from the National Association for Christian recovery website, and includes studies on the following subjects: Spiritual Abuse, Addictions, Broken Relationships, Depression, Distorted Images of Self, Fear, Loss, Shame, Work Addictions, Family Dysfunctions, Distorted Images of God, plus a study on the Life Long Journey of Recovery.Interactive classes include Understanding the Bible, Bible Parables, Bible History, Goal Setting, and Denomination Studies.

Level 3: This phase is 4 months long. The men are awarded telephone privileges; can have mentor visits, and day passes when warranted. In addition to Bible studies, they have five books to cover: Firm Foundation, Overcoming Life, Lovers of God, A Life of Excellence, and Preparation of the Bride. Interactive classes include Alpha, Freedom in Christ for Adults, Goal Setting, Budget Plan, Resume Writing.

Level 4: This is called the “Mentoring Phase” and is 4 months long. Visitations are allowed on Saturdays and Sundays on day off, overnight or weekend passes can be granted, and the men can participate in various employment training programs at the Mission. Studies include life skills, resume writing and Internet browser and online job search. Interactive classes include: Relapse Prevention Studies.

In addition to the computer training given in the Faith City Ministries Hope for Men Program, Faith City Ministries established a vocational training center. This center allows participants to prepare for taking the GED exam, offers additional vocational skills and computer training through self-paced individual and group instruction.

Upon graduation, disciples have three options. The first is leaving the program and becoming productive citizens of their community. The second option is transitional housing. This allows the disciple to gain employment while living at Faith City Ministries. The third option allows students to apply for internship at Faith City Ministries. The intern then works another year as part of the Ministry team.

-------------------------

Like the Hope for Men program, Hope for Women is a one-year discipleship term. The women take classes two full days a week and work in the Family Shelter the rest of the week.

Women can qualify for the program if they are willing to commit 12 months of their lives to intense discipleship training. Faith City discipleship exists for the purpose of training up these women to be true followers of Christ who will radically transform the world they live in and reach a lost world with a message of hope and salvation. Some are homeless, and some come from abusive situations or drug abuse.

Upon graduation, Faith City Ministries helps them to make the transition to the world. They are taught goal setting, such as obtaining a GED, job training, or finding employment. Training at the Mission includes secretarial and administrative, cooking and housekeeping, etc.
