How to become a volunteer
Give a unique idea – we want to hear your ideas on how we can fight hunger in our community.

The West Alabama Food Bank has need of volunteers in several areas. Most volunteer positions do not involve a long commitment of time per scheduled visit. We ask that all volunteers call the WAFB to schedule a time to perform any volunteer duties. We want to be sure that every volunteer has an opportunity to perform meaningful work.

Some volunteer descriptions:
• Salvage sorter – will sort donated food product, clean and pack food product and ensure donated food meets our distribution standards. Requires some lifting of boxes that are often heavy. Hours available are between 8:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday-Thursday and 8:00 am to noon on Friday.
• Brown Bag program volunteer – Beginning at 7:00 am on the third Saturday of each month volunteers meet at the food bank to pack bags of food for the Brown Bag program. Delivery drivers are also needed beginning around 9:00 am. Volunteers are usually finished by 10:30 am.
• Warehouse order pickers and loaders – requires lifting heavy cases (50+ pounds) of food for agency orders and loading them in agency vehicles. From 8am to 2 pm Monday –Thursday and 8 am to noon on Friday.
• Development volunteers – perform a variety of tasks including fund raising, grant writing, food solicitation and procurement from local donors.
