notes: DISASTER ADVOCACY NYDIS works to ensure that the concerns of faith communities and the needs of present and future disaster victims are addressed on a governmental and legislative level. Specifically, NYDIS strives to give a voice to the voiceless and under-resourced communities through advocacy, education, and when appropriate, legislative reform. DISASTER RECOVERY Long after catastrophic events occur, many who were impacted economically, physically, emotionally, and spiritually continue to struggle with the day-to-day process of recovery for months or years. -> FAITH COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS NYDIS helps houses of worship and religious bodies develop written preparedness plans to mitigate the impact of a disaster and to organize an operational disaster response team. These plans address household preparedness, ministry continuity planning, neighborhood and interfaith collaboration, clergy roles, and ways to lessen the impact of a disaster on the worshipping community.
