After School Snack Program

Several years ago, we were asked to provide after school
snacks for children in the Parks and Recreation after
school program in Delray Beach because of discipline
problems.

Due to school crowding, children start eating lunch as early
as 10:30 a.m. then go to an afternoon school program and are
picked up by their care giver as late as 6 p.m. The children
are hungry in the afternoon and neither the children nor the
program have funds for food. As a result of this program, the
discipline problems have decreased and the children are no
longer hungry.

We are now providing after school snacks each school day to 190
children from families with low incomes in West Palm Beach and
Delray Beach.

Volunteers are needed to make sandwiches.
