PWS&D’s Response to Haiti Cholera Outbreak

An outbreak of cholera is sweeping across northern parts of Haiti, having already hospitalized 3,000 people and claimed over 250 lives. The disease is an additional burden to a nation already devastated by January's earthquake.

Health officials are working to contain the outbreak through a public education campaign, coordinating with international organizations to raise awareness and increasing efforts to prevent the spread of illness into southern regions.

ACT Alliance members in Haiti are distributing hygiene kits, water purification tablets and undertaking hygiene awareness activities for earthquake survivors in schools, communities and camps.

PWS&D is a member of the ACT Alliance and has contributed over $980,000 to supporting Haitians affected by the January Earthquake and this outbreak.
