Kids Cafe is a structured after-school program that promotes health, education and safety. It operates as a result of commitments from a community collaboration of non-profit organizations, individuals, and the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula.
WHY:
The Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula and its partners believe:
Children should experience success, safety and the opportunity to reach their
fullest potential.
Nurturing children fosters the growth of healthy communities.
WHO:
A targeted population of at-risk children between the ages of 6 – 18 who can benefit from nutritious meals and snacks as well as educational and enrichment activities.
WHERE:
Kids Cafes are located in areas children already congregate—such as Boys & Girls Clubs, churches or public schools. The facilities are clean, secure and adequately staffed.
LOCATIONS:
There are 27 Kids Cafes Sites that the Foodbank of the Virginia Peninsula is proud to serve.

GOALS:
To motivate and empower communities to form an alliance of partners to respond to the problem of childhood hunger
To provide additional learning experiences for at-risk children in an after-school setting
To provide a nutritiously adequate meal to at-risk children
To provide nutrition education to children and their parents
To expand Kids Cafes to all children in need on the Peninsula
OPERATION:
Kids Cafes operate under the direction of sponsoring non-profit agencies. Along with an evening meal, each Kids Cafe offers a variety of enrichment activities such as tutoring, mentoring, life skills training and nutrition education.
KIDS CAFE MISSION:
To provide balanced, nutritious meals to help children at risk help themselves through positive learning experiences to improve their quality of life and their future.
