Medical Teams International Responds To Crisis In Pakistan

Medical Teams International is responding to the recent disastrous flooding in Pakistan. They have shipped three containers of medical supplies to partners on the ground in the flood-affected area of the country. The medicines and supplies are enough to help hundreds of thousands of people and are valued at nearly $2 million.

The essential medicines and supplies have arrived in the Northwest region of Pakistan where heavy rain has caused rivers to overflow their banks. More than 1,500 people are known to have died in the floods. The supplies have been received by in-country partners, Hope International and Poverty Eradication Initiative, and are being used to respond to the urgent health needs of those affected by the flooding.

Medical Teams International will air-lift more supplies to their partner in Pakistan early next week. This unit is approximately one metric ton and will serve 10,000 people for 3 months. Valued at $421,000, it will provide urgently needed medicines and supplies to the partner's hospitals and clinics in Pakistan.

In addition, Medical Teams International will determine if teams of emergency medical professionals can be deployed to address emergency health care needs at a partner hospital.
