Post #1 - ANIMAL RESCUE:
MONETARY DONATIONS:
ADPBR: The founder of America's Dog Pit Bull Rescue lost everything in the storm. He escaped from the flooding with 14 rescue dogs and stayed by their side while taking temporary shelter at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center. He has a fundraising effort as well as a supply donation drive.
CYPRESS LAKE ANIMAL HOSPITAL: Cypress Lake Animal Hospital located at 38316 LA-929, Prairieville, LA 70769, was severely damaged from flooding. They say the building is not a total loss, but they are raising money to pay for the renovation. The clinic was not located in a flood zone, therefore they did not have flood insurance. Click here to contribute to the fundraising campaign.
DENHAM SPRINGS ANIMAL SHELTER: Accepting donations via a GoFundMe account, which PetCo is matching dollar-for-dollar up to $50,000. The shelter also has an Amazon Wish List. By making purchases on Amazon, needed items will be sent directly to the shelter.
TANGI HUMANE SOCIETY: Accepting donations via a GoFundMe account. The society also has an Amazon Wish List. By making purchases on Amazon, needed items will be sent directly to the shelter.
YELP! BATON ROUGE: The animal rescue organization was flooded and is working to establish a new location. All of the animals are being cared for by fosters out of their homes. If you would like to donate toward expenses for food, supplies, medical care including spay, neuter, microchips, vaccines, heartworm preventative and treatment, routine and emergency medical, or to replace items lost in the flood, please click on the following link: www.yelpbatonrouge.com/donate to sign up for a monthly or one time tax-deductible donation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
ANIMAL RESPONSE TEAM: The ASPCA has dispatched a disaster response team to conduct animal water rescues. The ASPCA is working with the Louisiana State Animal Response Team (LSART) to coordinate local resources. Residents who need assistance recovering an animal from their flooded home or who need emergency shelter for their animal should contact the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (OHSEP). Their contact information can be found here. More information about the ASPCA's rescue efforts can be found here.
CAT RESCUE GROUP: Alley Cats Allies team is helping to rescue and shelter cats that were displaced due to flooding. Alley Cat Allies urges people who would like to help to consider fostering cats through your local shelter, as animals will most likely be moved north, away from the disaster area. It also recommends for cat owners and caregivers to have disaster plans in place in case they are needed. Alley Cat Allies’ disaster readiness and response advice is available at www.alleycat.org/DisasterTips.
EAST BATON ROUGE ANIMAL SHELTER: EBR Animal Control on 2680 Progress Road, Baton Rouge 70807 is serving as an animal shelter.
GUARDIANS OF RESCUE: The organization has been getting calls daily with information and requests to help with animals that have been abandoned at homes and in other areas. The group has been and is currently providing food for animals, including for the cows, horses, and companion animals that have been left behind in the storm's aftermath. GOR has also teamed up with Cajun Navy and Army to help build enclosures, as well as cleaning out barns, so that those who have lost everything will still have a safe place for their animals. Some of the additional ways GOR has helped the animals impacted by the flood include:
Providing search and rescue efforts.
Procuring a semi-truck of needed supplies through PetsMart Charities for Humane Society of Louisiana, to use for the animals they took and for distribution to other shelters and rescues in need.
Provided for medical care to help injured animals, such as Sandy, the horse, who had injured her back leg trying to escape her stall during the flooding.
Delivering food and supplies to owners and shelters.
Building new or repairing original enclosures destroyed by floods.
The community can assist GOR by watching out for animals in need and contacting the organization when they see those in distress. Guardians of Rescue provides assistance to animals out on the streets, helping to rescue them, provide medical care, food and shelter, and find foster-home placements. They are also instrumental in helping military members with their pets and to provide service dogs to veterans suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. To learn more, get involved, or to make a donation to support the Guardians of Rescue, visit www.guardiansofrescue.org.
LOUISIANA FLOOD ANIMALS IN NEED: This Facebook page is working to reunite pets lost in the flood with their owners.
LOUISIANA STATE ANIMAL RESPONSE TEAM (LSART): Is still responding and operating shelters for animals affected by flooding. See their news page for the lastest information. If you are still having issues with animals at this time, please call your local OEP (Office of Emergency Prepardness). If you cannot reach anyone, please email lsartinfo@gmail.com.
Animal Owners who need help with assistance during disasters are asked to contact their local Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, Parish Animal Control Office, or Sheriffs Office. All emergencies and disasters begin at the local level. Local agencies can request help directly from LSART, or from the state, who in turn may request LSART to assist. LSART works within the state/federal system to have an organized and efficient response.
MOBILE PET SHELTER: A mobile pet shelter has been set up at the Baton Rouge River Center on 275 S River Rd.
TEMPORARY SHELTER: Sherwood South Animal Hospital on South Sherwood Forest Blvd. is offering to house pets. They've also got doctors on hand. Residents can call (225) 293-6440 for more information.
