Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast days before Halloween, and it hit with a vengeance. Sandy turned into an extra-tropical cyclone, known as a "Superstorm," bringing back memories of Hurricane Katrina and the destruction it left behind. Both hurricanes brought a surge of water, with Katrina the surge was higher, and the path was 300 miles wide, whereas the shape of Sandy extended its surge 900 miles with its rotation. The volunteers of Do Your Part were there for the people of Katrina and many disasters since, and will be there for the people that have been affected by Sandy.
The aftermath of Sandy left massive devastation, and with the large population of the states and land involved, recovery is long term. Do Your Part is working along with its partners to aid in the recovery process by holding donation drives and securing large in-kind donations from corporate donors. Operation Sandy Gifts of Love
Hurricane Sandy left thousands of people homeless and many more without food, water, heat, power, or any of the other necessities we all take for granted. To help restore their lives to a sense of normalcy, Do Your Part has established the Operation Sandy Gifts of Love Registry. These online Amazon gift registries allow donors to browse through a list of basic relief supplies, household items, and Christmas gifts for children, and purchase items on behalf of the most vulnerable families in the hardest hit areas. The items you supply will make an immediate and positive impact on the lives of the people who need them the most. As you browse the registry, you also can learn about the families and distribution sites you will be helping, and they will know that they are not alone in facing this tragedy.
With such widespread and complete devastation, it will take years for the East Coast to recover. Do Your Part recognizes that no government agency, charity or local community can provide all of the things these families need to put their lives back together. But each of us can "do our part" to fill the gaps and make a difference right away. That's why, with the help of communities, churches, partnered organizations, and volunteers, we've identified and stringently verified critical needs of families, individuals and relief sites for whom your donation will do the most good: children, elderly, disabled, unemployed, uninsured, alone. Many have lost everything except their faith in family, friends, neighbors, communities and volunteers who have reminded us that we are all in this together. Your kindness will reach them directly to their doorstep, with zero overhead or delays.
Please share these registries with your friends, family and co-workers. Thank you for your generosity.
