Interested in Becoming a Disaster Recovery Volunteer? Please register on this site, complete an individual profile, and wait for instructions and specific places to go.

As community needs are assessed, volunteer opportunities will be identified by organizations that need support. You will be contacted once these needs have been expressed. Please be patient with the process as needs assessments are now being confirmed. Thank you for your willingness to donate one of life's most precious assets, your time, to help build community and help your neighbors in need, especially during this unprecedented situation.

Please check the "For Disaster" page periodically. Once Disaster Recovery volunteer opportunities have been identified, we will feature them with links so that you can sign-up to help.

If you are with a nonprofit or governmental agency seeking volunteers, please register or call 516-564-5482.

For now, it will help us if you fill out your volunteer skills profile so we will know more about you and how you can help. Once you register, you'll need to log back in to access and update the volunteer skills.

Those affected by the disaster should consider registering themselves at the Red Cross Safe and Well website to let loved ones know you are safe during this stressful time. Safe and Well is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and is accessible in both English and Spanish.

WELCOME to Long Island’s resource for volunteerism and community service initiatives throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties.

Take some time to look through the site, search for opportunities and consider sharing your time and talents with your community. Invite your friends & family to join you!

Some important advice to unaffiliated, spontaneous volunteers:
Volunteers should NEVER deploy to the disaster area unless specifically connected to and requested by a locally receiving organization. Communities struggling to respond and recover can be overwhelmed by an influx of unexpected, unrequested and/or unneeded volunteers or donations.

Confirm the need and the destination BEFORE collecting anything. Potential donors should be wary of anyone who claims that “everything is needed.” Groups can be disappointed when the goods they’ve collected aren’t appreciated. Communities affected by disaster often do not have the time or resources to dispose of unneeded donations. Get precise information and confirm the need and destination before collecting any donated good.

Volunteer Wisely. In communities struggling to respond to and recover from disasters, an influx of unexpected, unrequested, and unneeded volunteers can seriously complicate response and recovery efforts. BEFORE TRAVELING TO THE AREA TO HELP, learn whether volunteers are needed, if local volunteers are preferred (to minimize needs for additional food, water, and shelter in an already challenged area), and if they are seeking specific skills.
