Hurricane Sandy Update

United Way 2-1-1 in Rhode Island (2-1-1) is working closely with federal and state officials to monitor the progress of Hurricane Sandy and help Rhode Islanders prepare for its potential impact on our state. 2-1-1 can be reached from any phone in Rhode Island, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, by simply dialing 2-1-1. The service is free, confidential and multilingual.

For situations involving any immediate threat to the health and welfare of residents, individuals should immediately call 9-1-1.

For other requests for assistance, such as food, shelter, transportation or other human service needs, Rhode Islanders are encouraged to call 2-1-1. Information is also available online at www.211ri.org.

Also, United Way and Serve Rhode Island are trying to recruit 400 volunteers to help with the state’s response to Hurricane Sandy. Anyone interested in helping in this situation is encouraged to call 2-1-1 who is working with Serve Rhode Island to deploy volunteers throughout the state.
