community kitchen served a free meal monday in the 7th ward on Rocheblave & Onzaga St. to residents that had been without power for six straight days. red beans & rice, egg salad, eggplant, and a fresh green salad with veggies were a welcome meal for folks who had to throw out much food from warm refrigerators and many of whom couldn’t cook with their electric stoves. community kitchen also offered a variety of free fresh produce. fruit & vegetables were just as popular as the hot food, and one neighbor commented how the supermarket up on Carrollton had run out of most produce by the time she had arrived there, so this produce distribution was a blessing.
today we’re preparing our regular tuesday meal to serve in Duncan Plaza downtown across from city hall, near the main branch public library, at 3pm.
some of the supplies donated for these meals came from OccupyIsaac and Portlight. Interoccupy is doing a funds & supplies drive to support Community Kitchen, Common Ground, and other relief agencies.
Thank you for your partnership and support! Call our office any time if we can support you in making a donation (504) 365-8800.
