Mission: From Website
Our project in Alabama is expanding! Over the last week, a small team of All Hands and AmeriCorps volunteers and staff has been operating the Alabama Recovery Coordination Center (RCC), which links homeowner work requests with active volunteer organizations in Alabama. Our RCC support role helps us identify specific needs and communities that are in need of the direct services that All Hands Volunteers and other volunteer groups can provide.

Our team on the ground is still in the process of finalizing volunteer project details but we are now accepting volunteer applications here (https://hodr.wufoo.com/forms/project-alabama-volunteer-inquiry-form/)for those interested in tornado recovery opportunities in Alabama.

We will continue to fulfill our RCC responsibilities with a core team but most volunteers can expect to be involved with tree and debris removal and tornado-related work such as the tarping and repair of damaged roofs. People with chainsaw operation experience or light repair skills are especially needed, as well as general volunteers. Many unmet needs remain as a result of the April 27th tornadoes that tore across many areas of the state. Volunteers should be prepared and willing to travel long distances intra-state as we aim to assist individuals and communities that have not yet received sufficient support to cover the needs. Please be aware that this travel may include camping during certain intervals.

We will use Birmingham and Birmingham Airport as our entry point for volunteers traveling to the project. Teams will assemble and travel to sites around Alabama from Birmingham.

More details will follow as we confirm our housing/ base setup. The project is slated for June 4 - July 6, 2011 with the possibility to extend if needs that volunteers can address continue to surface in the coming weeks.

Areas Served: All areas of state affected by April Tornados 2011
