URGENT NEED:
I just received word from our Main Office & Dorm Location. Our
dorms suffered little damage. However, the ceiling caved in on
my office. Our insurance doesn’t include this loss. I have some
folks cleaning up right now! My computers, printers, phones, and
copier may be a total loss…as well as our wood furniture, file
cabinets, and refrigerators. We’re going to need immediate help
with this in order to get our office set up right away. Obviously
desktop computers and printers would be an immediate need! I’m
sure that we can get them locally.
SUPPLIES AVAILABLE LOCALLY:
One local Home Depot received 2 Tractor-Trailer loads of generators
this morning. Many of these Supplies Will Be Immediately Available
Locally! We would need Funding to access these items right away.
Food stores, hardware stores, appliance stores…they are all
beginning to open…many without any power…but, they are open and
they are receiving the necessary goods needed. -> IMMEDIATE PRIORITY: EMERGENCY SUPPLIES

VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY NEEDED:
Operation Nehemiah can house up to 165 Volunteers in their dorms
located in New Orleans, LA. Three meals will be provided (M-Fri.),
as well as bathrooms and showers separated for men and women. Please
coordinate directly with them to agree to an appropriate donation
for your stay to cover the costs of volunteer housing. It is suggested
you bring as many tools and supplies as possible to assist with mud out
muck out projects for flooding, as well as ice chests to have on work
sites. Parking on the street near the dorm runs $8-$12 per day and is
the volunteers responsibility. The location is in a safe and secure
neighborhood. This type volunteer work requires you be in good physical
condition.
Also needed are helpers for the warehouse, distribution of relief
supplies donation collection and office duties. Some volunteer positions
do not require physical labor so if there are those on your team that
want to do lighter duty tasks, bring them along.

The New Orleans volunteer camp site can house 50-80 volunteers. The St. Bernard volunteer camp site (on Bayou Road) can house up to 1200 volunteers. They offer a segregated dormitory, heated & air-conditioned housing setting and the sites have fully commercial kitchens, showers, laundry facilities and bathrooms. Breakfast & dinner are available. Coolers and ice chests for food and drink work best throughout the day, including lunch, when you're at a job site.
All denominations and unaffiliated groups/individual volunteers are welcome. Meals are included. Woerk projects are provided, but if you already have a volunteer assignment in place (just not through Operation Nehemiah), accomodations/meals are still available.
Skilled labor volunteers are needed, but training/orientation is available for unskilled folks. They also need a wide variety of volunteers that can help with community service projects at schools, churches, parks, community centers, community beautification, businesses and wetlands restoration. This organization serves the entire community (not just private residents).
Operation Nehemiah will also assist your volunteers in making tourism reservations and providing information about how to make the best of your stay to be both in service to this community, as well as enjoy all it's amenities and events/landmarks. ->

Hurricane Katrina and Operation Nehemiah:
While Hurricane Katrina may have wiped out much of the
building and the city, God's people of Carrollton Avenue
are still His Church. Operation Nehemiah is the name for
the rebuilding effort that began almost a year ago. Our
building, the family of God's children that meets there,
and the lives of those around us are all in the process of
being rebuilt and restored.
Operation Nehemiah is taking a holistic approach to helping
our community return and rebuild. From helping distribute
supplies, bedding, and cleaning products to coordinating
volunteer work teams helping people muck out their houses,
we're doing our best to address the physical and spiritual
needs of our city. As we move forward we'll need increasing
numbers of skilled workers to help rebuild our building and
the homes of those to whom we are ministering.
