*A BIG THANK YOU* and updated needs and information for Big Oak Fire Department in Big Oak/Peeks Hill Community in Ohatchee
by Ohatchee "The Biggest Little Town in the USA" Help Now on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 9:14pm
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Big Oak is requesting groups of 5 or more that can be sent out as "teams" to assist in debris clean-up and rebuilding efforts. Single individuals who want to help will be placed with a group. Please call ahead so that the Fire Dept. will be able to best plan on how to match your group up with the most need on the day you would like to help. Also, if you have equipment, let them know what work you can do and what equipment you have so that the Fire Dept. can arrange for work to be ready for you. All volunteers must now register at the Big Oak Fire Department before heading to work sites per EMA/FEMA Regulations. If you have any questions, please contact Leslie Cruise at 256-454-0170 or Big Oak Fire Department at 256-892-2221 and 256-892-3532. The Fire Department is located at 520 Peeks Hill Road.
As of tomorrow, Thursday, May 19th, the donation distribution center will be open from 2 pm to 6 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and 10 am to 3 pm on Saturdays. If any survivor is in need of necessities any other day or time when the donation center is closed, please contact Billy 256-225-3532 or Leslie at 256-454-0170 for assistance.
*Donation supplies currently needed: Gatorades/Powerades, single serving drink mixes (propel, etc.), non-perishable food items, laundry detergent, and plastic bin containers.
*Monetary donations are also appreciated! You can mail a check to 520 Peeks Hill Rd, Gadsden, AL 35905 or donate through the tornado victim fund with BB & T Bank called: Big Oak Fire Department Tornado Victim Fund. You may also drop off donations at the fire station. They will provide reciepts for any monetary donation for tax purposes.
THANK YOU! Big Oak Volunteer Fire Department would like to say a huge "THANK YOU" to everyone who gave their time or donated items to help in the relief efforts for people affected by the tornado in the BigOak/Peeks Hill Community in Ohatchee. Without your kindness and incredible generosity, it would have been almost impossible to help the many people in need.
They are in the phase of removing BIG tree's so that they can clear enough of this large debris and get it in pieces so the many volunteers that are ready to go to work can get in and clear it in smaller pieces. Heavy equipment and experienced chainsaw operators are vitally needed so they can move on to the next phase.
The community in general, other than the above referenced critical needs is in good shape for supplies, volunteers and feeding.
