About Us
Low literacy, lack of basic health facilities and unemployment are the root causes of poverty of the underprivileged communities in urban and rural areas.
The Government is responsible for providing these basic facilities but due to the magnitude of the problem attributed to our huge population and a lack of resources the Government is unable to reach out to many segment of society.
Realizing that it was also the responsibility of the private sector to come forward and join hands in supplementing Governmental efforts for the provision of these facilities to the underprivileged, NOOR COMMUNITY WELFARE TRUST (NOCWET) was established in April 1999 by Minhas family of chak 66 SB (Kotmoman) and was registered with Registrar Joint Stock Companies in November 2002. The trust started its social welfare activities by establishing Literacy Centers for street children and Vocational Training Centers for poor girls/widows initially in rural areas of Sargodha, Chakwal and Islamabad.
NOCWET, aims to improve the socio-economic standard and quality of life of the poor and backward sections of society by contributing towards their health and literacy, reduction of poverty, creation of employment opportunities and human resources development.
The Trust is running a fully equipped hospital, two Vocational training Centers, a Public Library, a Qarz-e-Hassana scheme and a ROZGAR scheme.
Presently, the Trust is entirely engaged in Flood Relief and Rehabilitation efforts for flood victims (Details on relevant pages of the website).
AL ZAMIN (A welfare project of the Trust based on Interest free microfinance scheme or "Qarz-e-Hassana")
Al-Zamin, an interest free microfinance project of Noor Community Welfare Trust (NOCWET) is dedicated to improving the lives of the poor. NOCWET provides the poor with interest-free loans so that they may acquire a livelihood and the skills and support they need to reach their full potential. To this end, Al Zamin project has initially been donated an amount of Rs 2 Million by Emirates Security Services, a business enterprise owned by the Trustees of NOCWET. It will subsequently raise its funds from Civil Society. It has decided not to depend on international funding; instead it uses the spirits of volunteerism and the tradition of giving, a cardinal principal of all religions.
Al Zamin derives inspiration from the Muslim spirit of muakhaat or brotherhood. The earliest example of muakhaat was first displayed by the citizens of Madina at the down of Islam, when they shared their wealth with the muhajirin of Makkah. It's philosophy is based on the principal of Qarze-e-Hasna, helping someone in need with interest-free loans, which is favored over charity. So far, it has been instrumental in helping 200 families move from being dependent on others to being self-sufficient. The success stories these people will bring hope to those still in need of help.
This project started its operations in November 2009 in Chak 66 SB, a village in Tahsil Kotmoman, District Sagodha it has now expanded to one Union Council of 10 villages and localities , and has planned to cover the entire Tehsil,(Kotmoman) comprising of over 100 locations and villages, by December 2011. All this has been made possible because of the tireless efforts made by our dedicated staff and members of committee.
Al-Zamin sincerely appreciates and is grateful to dozens of volunteers who, as members of committee, identified the deserving candidates and helped us in discussing their business plans during extensive interviews. Organizations like Al Zamin are the fine examples of civil society at its best. The objective is to present this fine example to others. Together we all can make a big difference. You all have shared not only your time and resources, but also your compassion. It is because of your generous support that Al Zamin is, and will continue to be, an inspiration place a heaven, where hope for the future blossoms, Inshallah.
We hope that over the years, Al Zamin will stay true to its mission of helping the underprivileged with interest free loans and provide various loans products to meet the need of its clients. To increase the outreach of interest free loans, Al Zamin has plan to partner with individuals in other cities to start similar initiatives, after June 2011.
