Humane Society is prepping for small domesticated pets evac's for the Dome Fire.
(OLD NOTES - FOURMILE CYN. FIRE)
The Humane Society of Boulder Valley -- which is housing 10 pets amid the Fourmile Fire evacuations -- is holding a special donation drive from now until Wednesday.
The Humane Society of Boulder Valley Thrift and Gift Shop is collecting clothing, furniture and household items at its shop at 5320 Arapahoe Ave. in Boulder from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. this week.
All of the donated items will then be provided to evacuees for free from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
The humane society is continuing to provide temporary shelter and care for about 10 dogs, cats and small mammals displaced from their homes due to the wildfires.
All evacuee pets are receiving free vaccinations and medical care, and guardians have the option to have their pets spayed or neutered and microchipped if they'd like. Guardians are able to come visit their pets and volunteers and staff are playing with the animals, petting cats and walking dogs.
The humane society is also providing free pet food and supplies to anyone affected by the fire including dog and cat food, treats, beds, cat litter and litter boxes, crates or carriers and toys along with blankets and towels.
Items may be picked up at the shelter at 2323 55th Street in Boulder. It's open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Employees at the shelter say its biggest need is cash donations, which can be made online at www.boulderhumane.org or by texting PETS to 50555*.
The shelter has received abundant donations of food, cat litter, leashes, blankets and towels so these things are no longer needed.
The shelter is also collecting Zipper reclosable bags in all sizes; paper towels; dog and cat toys; stainless steel food bowls; peanut butter; high-density laundry detergent; and brown paper lunch bags.

notes: SOURCE: http://hsbv.typepad.com/walktheblog/2010/09/fourmile-canyon-fire-how-you-can-help.html
To date we have provided care for about 40 cats, dogs and small mammals as families move to safe shelter and wait to see if their home survives. It has been a really stressful couple of days for these pets – without their families close by, they are reliant on our staff and volunteers to help keep them comfortable and safe. It is difficult to see people come through our doors, their future uncertain, leaving their pets in our care while the disaster continues. While we can't help save their homes, knowing their pets are safe is an important service we can provide.
I have one of the evacuee dogs in my office today – he captured my heart when he came in last night and his guardian said he had never been without her before. So being in a kennel was rough for him, and I thought hanging out in my office might make things a little easier. After a few hours, Eli finally settled in and fell asleep with his soft head on my feet. He is a great reminder to me of why HSBV is here and how we can be that safety net for the animals of our community.
With your support our safety net includes free housing, food and medical care to these animals in need. And, we can give some peace of mind to those people affected by the fire. Many of you have asked how you can help, and we have some specific needs you can assist with today. We are seeking the following donations:
* Blankets
* Towels
* Cat Litter
* Canned dog and cat food
* 6-foot dog leashes
And, during this time your financial donations are critical. Your support will directly benefit all of the animals in our care. As of this afternoon we had more than 300 animals in our facility or in foster homes. From our adoption animals to lost and stray pets to those evacuated from the fire, they need your help more than ever. Please consider making a donation to assist our fire relief efforts and the general care of all of the homeless animals we serve.
Your donation today ensures we can be there for every animal in need. Thank you again for your dedication and commitment to our mission!

* Blankets
* Towels
* Cat Litter
* Canned dog and cat food
* 6-foot dog leashes
