notes: From the NYVOAD Member Directory: Disaster Program Disaster Chaplaincy Services (DCS) is a 501 (c) (3) non profit, nonsectarian organization whose purpose is to assure skilled and appropriate interdisciplinary spiritual care for all people affected by disasters in the New York tri-state area. We do this by recruiting, screening, orienting, training, educating, deploying and supervising chaplains on behalf of the religious communities of the tri-state region. Since 2001, DCS’s disaster response program has deployed hundreds of chaplains who have volunteered 63,000 hours helping people in their time of greatest need—after major accidents, fires, and other disasters. DCS maintains its relationships with other nonprofit response organizations and government agencies that are involved in disaster response and emergency management, such as the American Red Cross and NYC’s Office of Emergency Management.
