Homan. -> FROM THE SITE 3/11: FH responding Food for the Hungry is responding in collaboration with Japan International Food for the Hungry (JIFH). JIFH staff is assessing the most urgent needs in Sendai. Initial response includes distribution of canned bread, rice and water. Sendai is a coastal city in northeastern Miyagi that suffered catastrophic damage following the 8.9-magnitude earthquake and resulting tsunami that struck Japan’s northeastern area on Friday. The head of the JIFH assessment team, Hirohisa Seike, expressed his initial reaction, “Be amazed at the size of the tremendous destructive power of the tsunami.” An FH partner on the ground relayed the gratitude of a local pastor searching for 60 church members out of 210 still unaccounted for. “When he heard that so many foreigners are coming to help, he could not help but cry. Thank you.
