This spring the country has suffered some of the most devastating tornadoes in our history, the most recent in Joplin, Missouri. Although Joplin is not an Appalachian city, they are in great need. Given our expertise and ability to assist in natural disasters, CAP is compelled to send assistance to this community. We will be gathering donations to send to Joplin to assist the families and the community torn apart by this disaster. This is the time for our country to pull together and help.
We received the call of distress from Missouri, and answered, just as we answered in Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Kentucky just a few weeks ago. Through our Operation Sharing division, CAP will be sending donated supplies that will ease the burden of those affected by this storm. We call on you to help us in delivering these much needed items. Your contribution to this effort will allow us to send more trucks of supplies to Joplin, while continuing to send supplies to the other southern states that are still in need.
You have always supported our efforts, and we are asking for your help once again. We can all make a difference for these families who now have no homes, together we can send them hope. Hope in the form of much needed supplies like non-perishable foods and canned goods, water, flashlights and batteries, personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies.
..
You see, Operation New Hope isn’t just about rebuilding homes, it’s about rebuilding lives. Once their homes are repaired, the families we assist enjoy such overwhelming pride that their lives are transformed.
People get new jobs; parents get more involved with their children and they do better in school; and folks with health problems start feeling better. We see it all the time and it’s truly amazing.
With your help, we can make Operation New Hope a reality for families in desperate need. Please pray for us and those we serve.

Local CAP warehouse supplies flood victims
Staff, Wire Report
Two tractor-trailer loads of food and water were shipped out of Knox County Thursday to flood victims in the eastern part of the state.
Ray Storm, manager at the Christian Appalachian Project’s warehouse in Gray, said about 24 pallets of water, food and bedding would be delivered by the Kentucky Department of Transportation to churches in Jackson in Breathitt County and Garrett in Floyd County, where flooding has devastated communities and left many homeless.
“Any time there is a disaster in the area, we come straight out as quickly as we can to help with anything that they might need, with anything we have available,” Storm said. “And we’re actually beating the bushes right now to get some more items in to help some more.”
CAP receives donations of food, clothes, furniture, books and more from various national non-profits and vendors, and gives those items to churches, schools and local charities in a 13-state region of Appalachia.
One of CAP’s warehouses is located just outside of Corbin, where more relief trucks are expected next week.
These early truck-loads will include food, water and some cleaning supplies. Later on, victims may need clothing and building materials.
“Right now, the water is being taken care of and the bare essentials are being taken care of, but we’ll need cleaning supplies and things of that nature within the next week,” Storm said. “People, in most cases, they get bombarded with clothes and things like that and that’s really not what they need first off. Building supplies will be later, also. Water, bedding, things like that are first, cleaning supplies to clean up the mess, and then building materials to help rebuild.”
For those wanting to help, CAP deals with pallet-sized loads only and is not accepting individual donations of goods. However, Storm said monetary donations help pay for shipping and transportation costs. Contact CAP at 606-523-5799 or visit www.chrisapp.org for more information.

in the warehouse currently, as they are closing out their fiscal

Their primary goal, however, is to serve their home region.
And that includes serving some 1,800 organizations. So it looks

The types of things that they get in are food, books, clothing,

The Appalachian region stretches fron the northeast corner of Mississippi through the southwest corner of New York and in the hardest hit areas of the 13 states, more than 50% of children live in poverty. It takes more than hammers and saws and hearts full
of purpose.
In order to succeed, CAP's Operation New Hope, a special program designed to meet the most basic housing needs of impoverished families living in Appalachia, requires wood, roofing shingles, siding, nails, caulking, piping and a hundred other building supplies.
Will you help make sure we have supplies for these repairs and other basic necessities needed by Appalachian families struggling to make ends meet?
The next few weeks are critical for Operation New Hope.
In a matter of days, more than 400 wonderful college students will give up their Spring Break to join in what we call WorkFest, a four week program dedicated to repairing the homes of Appalachian families living in poverty
...

Update 8/17: The group operates two warehouses, one in Corbin
and one in Hager Hill Kentucky. They do not have any donations
in the warehouse currently, as they are closing out their fiscal
year. They expect donations to start coming in in Sept.
Their primary goal, however, is to serve their home region.
And that includes serving some 1,800 organizations. So it looks
like this group could use some help from the rest of the nation.
The types of things that they get in are food, books, clothing,
school supplies, etc. They've got local trucking, and some
regional trucking, it seems...to serve their primary mission.
There are two groups there, a donation warehouse/distribution
operation and a volunteer organization. They've been there for
over a decade. They seem like a truly wonderful organization.

notes: Update 8/17: They do not have any donations in the warehouse currently, as they
are closing out their fiscal year. They expect donations to start coming in
in Sept. Their primary goal, however, is to serve their home region. And
that includes serving some 1,800 organizations. So it looks like this group
could use some help from the rest of the nation. The types of things that
they get in are food, books, clothing, school supplies, etc. They've got local
trucking, and some regional trucking, it seems...to serve their primary mission.
There are two groups there, a donation warehouse/distribution operation and
a volunteer organization. They've been there for over a decade. They seem like
a truly wonderful organization. Terra
