PLEASE realize this project was initially started when Hurricane Katrina hit our eastern gulf .....
only a few, very few volunteers joined on this project but we cared and needed to help in anyway we could.
Many of the entries were extremely difficult to update, as in emergencies things change by the minute, hour or day.
Many of the links are no longer working but with a bit of diligence it is easy to correct. ESPECIALLY if you are the one creating a record!!!
However, there is only one of me, keeping an eagles eye over a large landscape filled with compassion! PRAYERS!!
Since Oct. 05
As a CitizenActionTeam.org volunteer, I search for facilities that are unknown and register them adding their current needs/availability in the CAT Database. Then I click on the option for "match" and give the possibilities available.
Another example: I watch for posts and respond using the proper links. For example: Volunteers that have posted the fact that they are free to go to the gulf, in a specific area and during a specific time frame. Their post asks if anyone knows where or who to contact. I look at the database, sort for that area, which displays all the possible contacts that have been identified, then copy the address link and post it in the reply. Viola... they have many options for contacts that NEED them!!
Another example: Volunteers that have items to donate but have no idea where to send them. I go to the CAT database, click on items or categories at the top, go down the list, click on "show" and viola!! I now have a list of contacts and they can choose. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT NOT to send things without finding out FIRST that those items are needed. Everything changes rapidly and without coordination there is more often MORE problems! PLEASE CALL FIRST!!
OR -- Just check "Database Help Desk" into your needs and contact Terra. You could add to the notes: Best Time & Number as well!!

The NEEDS at the Gulf are for SKILLED labor volunteers.. it helps if they have leadership skills but you won't get turned away. The other needs are mostly BUILDING materials for repairs/rebuilds! It will take YEARS to recuperate!

Since Oct.
-----------------
I am also available to help others with the database (CAT DBase). I can help with an entry or demonstrate with a tour. BEST IS: CONTACT Terra !!

THIS DATABASE NOW serves the nation and has become international as well!

Leslie's Information-
This is my emergency call list. I live in earthquake country so y'all will need these numbers if the 'big one' hit's us (or rather when it does):
805-987-6789 (Jan Sage - My Mom's)
818-634-6522 (My Cell)
818-634-1798 (Dee Dee's Cell)

818-388-5594 (Lucas's cell - son)
818-588-5975 (Holli's cell - sister)
I know this sounds totally morbid, but if anything were to ever happen to me, I'd want you guys to have access to my emails and contacts in my yahoo email.
You'd want to ask Deed for my password and she knows it.
Just an FYI!

Leslie's Information-
This is my emergency call list. I live in earthquake country so y'all will need these numbers if the 'big one' hit's us (or rather when it does):
805-987-6789 (Jan Sage - My Mom's)
818-634-6522 (My Cell)
818-634-1798 (Dee Dee's Cell)
818-388-5591 (Cole's cell - son)
818-388-5594 (Lucas's cell - son)
818-588-5975 (Holli's cell - sister)
I know this sounds totally morbid, but if anything were to ever happen to me, I'd want you guys to have access to my emails and contacts in my yahoo email.
You'd want to ask Deed for my password and she knows it.
Just an FYI!

DECEMBER 2007 - OREGON & WASHINGTON were effected
Severe Storms, Flooding, Landslides, and Mudslides
<winds up to 129mph at peak is estimated.... sustained with heavy rains
Many river & streams at flood warnings>
Washington also had one levee break!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Currently, project involvement have included the following:
- keeping the database updated (More assistance would be beneficial)
- assigning/managing volunteers (Contact Terra)
- reporting on status of the update (needs assigned)
- keeping the database organized (Ongoing development)
- cleaning out the new/unassigned items (Terra)
- neatening up the categories (Terra)
- updating/coordinating dbase policies (keeping us all on the same page!)
- developing training materials (Terra & Leslie)
Also, like all of the other core volunteers:
- help train new volunteers
- help train users
- update new facilities
- help find/recruit new volunteers
- help direct users how to find things
And all kindsa other useful stuff!

Since Oct.
-----------------
I am also available to help others with the database (CAT DBase). I can help with an entry or demonstrate with a tour. BEST IS: Just give me a call or e-mail me at grassrootshelping@yahoo.com !!
OR -- Just check "Database Help Desk" into your needs and contact Terra. You could add to the notes: Best Time & Number as well!!
-----------------
2007
The NEEDS at the Gulf are for SKILLED labor volunteers.. it helps if they have leadership skills but you won't get turned away. The other needs are mostly BUILDING materials for repairs/rebuilds! It will take YEARS to recuperate!
THIS DATABASE NOW serves the nation and has become international as well!
PREPAREDNESS is critical to any disaster!!

Since Oct.
