12/7/10 CHHN Update from Fr. Dorcin
We didn't receive any cholera patients this last 24 hours; but, for the end of November until today, we have received 17 patients.
For treatment we use oral rehydratati and doxycicline;
We refer the patients to Trou-du-Nord;
We didn't have any death in our clinic
We have 5 people. Yes we do have access to a doctor;
We need basic materials like: gloves, trash, protection clothes, chlorox, soap, aquatabs,, doxycicline , oral rehydratation.
If ever there is any possibility to make arrangement with a doctor to visit us at least once a week, it will be great.

Fr.Dorcin of Haiti Marycare reports that there have been 10 deaths in Roche Platte from cholera.A big problem is burial instructions. People were instructed to take their dead to Limonad. At Limonade they were turned away. They came back to Roch Plat and the magistrate told them to bury them in the cemetery.Peole living near the cemetery were furious and threatening to fire the magistrate. Are there such things as body bags people are supposed to be using? Fr.Dorcin has used the opportunity at funeral Masses to teach all he can about hand washing, water treatment, early treatment, etc.But he is not sure what to tell people about burial. Some people who died had gone to the voodoo priest because of their fear of cholera. He is trying to calm fears and urge people to get treatment ASAP.
If Fr.Dorcin is able to get to the Network depot can he get supplies for Roch Plat? ( Clorox, soap, doxycycline) he will be happy to take Ringers to Jakzi also.
People are being treated in Jakzi- I don't know where because there are no in patient facilities. They have no way to get to Tru du Nord CTC. They are too weak and the motorbikes and tap taps don't want to take them so they raise the price and no one can afford them.MSPP has not delivered a tent. Dr.Valval was hoping that they would at least make Jakzi an ORS treatment center. Also most of the people who are sick come from an area that is the poorest place in Jakzi, it is called "pilette" or "la Saline" ( Different from the village of Pillette near Roch Plat).It is near the sea and newer soccer field and has been the "traditional place to do "caca". Any help appreciated. Greg volunteers could possibly stay in the Center of Formation near the village of Jakzi. It has plenty of beds, but I don't know about food. We stay there when in Haiti and pay$30.00/day for room and board. Someone can try to check with Fr.Anescar, the pastor to make arrangements.Thank you Mary Lou larkin Medical Director Haiti Marycare

Cholera: one patient 'once in a while'. Have been treating with ORS and sending them home.
Water: don't use well as no pump. Use rain water collected.
