We believe that every person has gifts and talents that can be useful to help others. Some may want to join us on a service trip to Haiti, but you do not need to travel there or be a health professional, engineer or agriculturalist to help. Whatever your back-ground, there are many creative ways to help out. Our volunteers have helped using writing skills, computer skills, accounting backgrounds, board experience, cooking and nu-merous other experiences to assist Haiti Marycare. Our featured volunteer, Kris Beckman, has not only gone to Haiti as the first dental hygienist in Jacquesyl, but in addition to her many other skills is designing, painting and sewing an original quilt for auction to benefit Haiti Marycare. If you are interested in volunteering or would like further information about ways to help, please contact Joan DeFrances at jdefrances@haitimarycare.org or (203) 248-0244 or Tom Larkin at tlarkin @ haitimarycare.org or (203) 797-1893.

11/27/10 Two unofficial cases reported From Mary Larkin
Haiti Marycare in conjunction with MSPP has a primarycare clinic with a full time doctor and 2 fulltime nurses. Ms Elirose Joseph is the RN there. The report was NOT official and I have not heard from her or Dr.Valval or Dr.Eugene Maklin so it was an unofficial report from a priest that was there. We have supplied aquatabs, clorox, soap and creole teaching sheets. Programs are incorporated into the school day and all clinic visits about symtoms, treatment and prevention. I am the medical director of Haiti Marycare, and a member of the Cap Haitien health Network.

11/23/10 Email from Mary Larkin
I sent money for clorox, soap and enough for dr. maklin to make copies about the prevention and treatment.Sent more money for aquatabs. Just got more soap from Clean the World. So far i have heard of no cases in Jacquesyl or Pilette. Thanks for thinking of us. Mary Lou larkin.

Dr.Valval who only is able to use the internet on the weekend, reports 13 cases
of Cholera in Jakzi. He has had to treat them in Jakzi I presume because it is
too far to go to Tru du Nord. He has identified the area where most of the cases
have come from. The clinic in Jakzi has no place to treat or keep in patients.
Dr.Valval was promised a tent from MSPP and Plan Haiti one week ago, but it has
never been delivered. He is nearly out of ringers solution.

Our Activities
Haiti Marycare's efforts are concentrated in the isolated fishing village of Jacquesyl, located on Haiti's northeast coast between Cap Haitien and Fort Liberty, and in Cite Soleil, the poorest of the slums in the capitol, Port-au-Prince. We have been active in Haiti since 1994, addressing three areas:
Child and Family Health. Our health services focus on prenatal and childbirth care and on the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, including HIV/AIDs, tuberculosis, and malaria.
Education. We support preschool and primary school education for all children, as well as educational and economic opportunities and gender equality for girls and women.
Community development. We promote quality of life by providing clean drinking water, encouraging ecological preservation of land and sea, supporting improvements to subsistence farming and fishing, and cultivating Haitian arts, music, and culture.
Our Approach
We come first to observe, listen, and learn from the community as they describe their most urgent needs, then to reflect with them to discern the action required to meet those needs, and finally, to work together with mutual respect to achieve integrated health, education, and community development goals. -> Haiti Marycare works with local partners to improve lives through child and family health programs, education, and community development.

VOLUNTEERING DETAILS FROM THE SITE:

Would like Multi-Vitimins with iron -> 11/27/10 Two unofficial cases reported From Mary Larkin

Mary Lou larkin.

mission:
Haiti Marycare works with local partners to improve lives through child and family health programs, education, and community development.
