In the past this included construction of churches, schools, and medical clinics. More recently, THM has focused on the physical, and indirectly the emotional, well-being of these communities by providing medical care, medicines, nutritional supplements, food, and potable water.
How are these goals accomplished? By:
Building and staffing medical clinic – Tovar
Assembling all volunteer medical teams to visit these communities 4-5 times per year
Funding continued medical care between medical team visits – using professional Haitian staff (physicians and nurses)
Providing critical nutritional needs especially for those diagnosed with malnutrition and starvation
Drilling wells to provide potable water
---------------------------------------------
DONATE AND CONTACT
Haiti is the poorest nation in the western hemisphere. They have little access to medical care, potable water and food. The life expectancy is 45 years and the infant mortality rate is estimated to be 15-25%. The country is very mountainous with less than 15% arable. The average annual income is only $300. Education for children is rare and, in many places, non-existent outside schools built and supported by charitable non-government organizations. Even then, the majority of Haitian children remain uneducated resulting in an illiteracy rate of 80%.
Consider what it would be like to live under such conditions and then consider making a donation to help those who cannot help themselves.
Physicians and other volunteers pay all their own expenses. When possible, the Haiti Mission employs Haitian people from the local community - in most cases providing the only income for the families of these individuals.
Funds are needed for purchase of medicines, medical equipment and supplies, food for distribution at the Haiti Mission clinics, school tuition, supplies, uniforms and teachers.
To solidify the accomplishments we have made and to continue to provide resources to help the Haitian people build on their successes, we need your help - please contribute.
Any amount will help. Multiple small donations can be combined to support any one of the needs listed above.
Contributions can be made payable to Providence United Methodist Church, memo "The Haiti Mission".
