URGENT!!! IN DIRE NEED OF A TRUCK IN HAITI

Among other challenges we are facing as a small ministry, as it turns out, we at Promised Provision Ministries are the ONLY ones currently distributing baby formula in/around the Leogane area. Our missionary has checked with the Red Cross, the UN, Samaritan's Purse, Operation Blessing, Food for the Poor, and the U.S. Marines/Navy - all of the aid groups that are supplying the Leogane area and NONE has baby formula. The Marines even told him that they anticipate it taking 2-3 months to begin bringing some.

Unfortunately, we do not have a vehicle in Haiti, so Roody is forced to carry these supplies on foot. We are sending a shipment of formula later this week and, to date, have no idea how he is going to pick it up. He and we are relying on God to provide a way. OUR BIGGEST, MOST URGENT NEED is to have a truck in Haiti that can be used to transport supplies, including baby formula, transport injured/ill people to medical stations, transport children to care facilities within Haiti and help other small aid groups who may not have a vehicle either.

IF A DEALERSHIP OR INDIVIDUAL WISHES TO DONATE A TRUCK, IT SHOULD NOT BE DIFFICULT. They can either:

(1) Donate approximately $20,000 for a new truck or approximately $14,000 for a used one to "Promised Provision Ministries" and we will purchase one in the Dominican Republic, or

(2) A corporate office could contact their dealership in the Dominican Republic and arrange for a truck to be titled to Promised Provision Ministries (Roody is a member of our board so he is fully entitled to receive such a donation on our behalf)

(3) Make a direct purchase from a dealership in the Dominican Republic and have them title it to Promised Provision Ministries.

Roody has also been helping an orphanage located near the DR border to evaluate infants he is finding in fields and beside the road to ensure that they are truly orphans and then assisting them to relocate the orphans to their facility near the Haiti-DR border. In addition to trying to help feed these infants (ages 0-6 months), he has also visited 7 tent-city camps and developed a formula distribution route consisting of 73 mothers of infants to whom he will deliver formula as quickly as we can get it there.

We have received some donations of formula and funds from a small local church to purchase bottles, but are truly in need of funds to ship these vital supplies from Ft. Pierce to Haiti.

If there is anything you can possibly do to draw attention to this need will be greatly appreciated. People are welcome to donate to us or, even, better, if some large corporate sponsor(s) or one of the big relief organizations would undertake the task of ensuring larger quantities of formula make it into the hands of those who need it in Haiti, I know it would make God smile.

Holding down the fort for Jesus until the big relief organizations arrive...

February 12 , 2010 - Earthquake Update 15
Praise Reports Big Time Today!!

Thanks to our own Pastor Wayne and a coalition of churches in the Carolinas, we were able to wire Roody enough money to purchase a motorcycle!! Our first vehicle ever! Although still in desperate need of a truck to pick up and distribute baby formula and supplies, we are SO happy Roody is no longer completely on foot!! He apologized that he was just too busy today to buy the bike but promised to buy it tomorrow and send us photos.

Roody was so happy when he called tonight. He just kept saying how God has blessed him through Promised Provision. He said he felt he had had a very successful day. His is so funny – he says he spent the day with “a real missionary”, Clay Corrigan from Port-au-Prince (who does have a vehicle). The fact that he doesn’t view himself as a “real missionary” just cracks us up.

Whenever someone pulls into the camps with a truck, it is immediately swamped by people trying to get something – even if they do not know what you have. Clay suggested to Roody that future deliveries be made by our teenagers. His idea is to have our kids carry a backpack filled with cans of formula, enter the camp on foot, and visit each of their assigned mothers/infants. This will eliminate the riot caused by taking in a vehicle, allow our teens to pray with and for each mother and baby individually and share Jesus with them while giving them what He has provided for their child. WHAT A FABULOUS IDEA!!! God’s provision of spiritual food along with physical food AND a marvelous opportunity for our youth to serve and to grow in their walks with the Lord – you gotta love it!

Meanwhile, our own little logistics planner, Susan, has been burning up the internet and phones coordinating everything from formula donations, information about helping the Haitian women restart lactation, helping other relief organizations secure collection sites in Florida for tents and other relief items, pricing shipping options and making shipping arrangements for pallets of formula, coordinating with other missions groups to bring about cohesive collective efforts for distribution of donations to those most in need, etc. etc. etc. When God wants to “get ‘er done”, He calls on Susan!

Our prayer partners and financial supporters – all of those who have spent their quiet times on their knees before the Lord or have generously shared their financial blessings on behalf of this ministry, its missionaries, and those we serve. We cherish you and could not do any of this without you.

Kristen S. in Ohio, a stay-at-home mom who has been feeding small snacks to her children to keep them quiet while she works to garner public and media awareness of our plight to move baby formula into the Leogane area. She and our Susan are going to be bonded for life before this is all over.

Susan G. in Idaho, who provided for missionary Clay Corrigan to purchase formula in the Dominican Republic for delivery to Roody so they could distribute it together – finally, extra hands for Roody!

Nadege A. in California, who is working within her group of family members and friends to help injured people overlooked by the large aid organizations. She heard Roody’s story on American Public Radio (http://thestory.org/archive/the_story_965_Roody_Joseph.mp3/view) and decided to embrace the overlooked infants by joining forces with us to bring awareness of their plight and our efforts to alleviate their suffering. We are thrilled to be developing a friendship with this compassionate, determined woman.

Clay Corrigan, a missionary from Port-au-Prince who met Roody today with a BIG load of formula and other items for babies and children. He has a vehicle!! So together they visited three camps and distributed formula, diapers (thanks to Officer Billy of the U.S. Air Force and Officer Robert of the U.S. Navy), fortified peanut butter, and stuffed animals to over 500 infants and children. WOW!! Not a bad day’s work!
