Heart to Heart International just returned from the Communes of Belle Anse and Thiotte (actual locations at Cascade Pichon, Bleck, and Foret-des-Pins) where we held mobile clinics with 2 MDs, 3 RNs, and 1 Lab tech last week.
We heard reports of cholera-affected communities but did not see any patients. The local pastors reported that the people are dying en route to the CTCs and hospitals. Closest permanent medical facility is in Thiotte. The pastors in Foret-des-Pins begged me to open a CTC in Foret-des-Pins. They said many people would come. There is an empty dispenaire in Foret-des-Pins, but we've not been able to access it for several months. We hold clinics in churches and school yards there.
We did a large Aquatab distribution and lots of teaching on how to treat water by boiling and mixing with Clorox. We left medicine in Bleck and Cascade Pichon, where we have a nurse who makes rural rounds five days/week.

Help!! Heart to Heart International is in desperate need of doctors the entire month of April! We are looking for medical volunteers able to serve at least 7-days.
Our medical efforts are ongoing as we continue to provide much needed care for the people of Haiti. Even though the Haiti earthquake is not receiving the media attention it once was the needs of Haiti’s people are still great. Heart to Heart medical teams are also beginning to see patients with chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes and some post traumatic stress. We continue to see patients daily who are homeless, hungry and grieving. All are grateful for our care.
As you know, we are continuing to send teams of Primary Care and Emergency Physicians as well as PA’s, NP’s, Paramedics and Nurses. Our teams are working in downtown Port-au-Prince at the church-turned-clinic and out in the country near Leogane and its surrounding areas. Recently we moved into our new housing (Maison de Coeur-“House of Heart”) in Petion-ville just outside Port-au-Prince. This walled compound, where the teams stay, is safe and comfortable.
If there is any way you can serve in April, please call us as soon as possible. (877) 397-7800, extension 115. In addition, please know that we are scheduling medical teams through the rest of 2010 and into 2011.
Thank you to all of you who have served in Haiti with Heart to Heart. The experiences and stories we have heard are incredible and heartwarming.
Operation Base is at the Nazarene Seminary in Petion-ville, outside of Port-au-Prince. Teams are sent everyday to Soccor Field in Port-au-Prince and to Leogane at the Chruch of the Nazarene. They are partnering with Docs Who Care.
The situation in Haiti is turbulent right now. Beyond the health challenges in Port-au-Prince are towns and cities that have received little humanitarian assistance. Food and water supplies are inadequate.
People are getting desperate. Aid shipments are increasing in size and intensity. It is a race against time
to help tens of thousands of people. And yet, there is still hope for the Haitian people following the
seismic shifts on their island.
• A “humanitarian bridge” has been created to Haiti.
We have staff in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic; and Miami, Florida.
• Our founder, Dr. Gary Morsch, is leading the
efforts in Haiti, paving the way for more aid and
volunteers in the coming days and weeks.
• Spread the word about our relief efforts through your formal and informal social networks. Follow us on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/heart.to.heart.international) or Twitter
(http://twitter.com/Heart_to_Heart)
• Make a financial donation, so the aid keeps flowing to those who need it most. See info below.
• Assemble Heart to Heart Care Kits – soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, comb, bandages, washcloth and hand towel.
• Sign up to volunteer. We expect this crisis response to be intense over the next 2-3 weeks and we will need volunteers in various capacities. Sign up on our website. We’ll contact you shortly.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, January 12, a magnitude-7.0 earthquake struck near the heavily populated region of Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti. Emergency officials expect the death toll to exceed 100,000. This Caribbean island was already severely underserved (ranking as one of the poorest nations in the Western hemisphere). Because of this fact, Heart to Heart has actively promoted health in Haiti for more than a decade. Our staff is in Port-au-Prince, and we have created a "humanitarian bridge" from the United States through the Dominican Republic into Haiti. Working alongside our local partners, we are working to address major health concerns as minor injuries have not been treated (since few healthcare facilities are operational). In most of these cases, we're in a race against time.
You can help our efforts by making an online donation right now. We have already delivered several shipments of medical aid, but we will need your support to keep the aid flowing to those most in need in Haiti.

People are getting desperate. Aid shipments are increasing in size and intensity. It is a race against time

Supporters of Heart to Heart are helping make the following possible:
• A “humanitarian bridge” has been created to Haiti.
We have staff in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic; and Miami, Florida.
• We have already delivered nearly $5 million worth
of medicines and supplies to Haiti, and more
medical aid is on the way. We are sending aid
shipments almost daily to affected regions.
• Our founder, Dr. Gary Morsch, is leading the
efforts in Haiti, paving the way for more aid and
volunteers in the coming days and weeks.
• Teams of medical volunteers are arriving every
day. They are joining “extreme teams” of 4-5
individuals that travel to outlying, underserved
areas for 2-3 days. While in these towns and
cities, the teams are addressing immediate health
concerns, assessing ongoing needs, and
communicating those needs to our command center
in Port-au-Prince, so additional aid can be
channeled to these regions.
• One of those “extreme teams” traveled to Fondwa,
epicenter of a magnitude-6.0 earthquake that
struck on January 20. They were the first aid group
on the scene and began treating the injured
immediately. They will remain onsite for several
more days, receiving additional supplies and
support from our command center.

A HEART FOR HAITI
Earthquake Relief Update | January 21, 2010
The situation in Haiti is turbulent right now. Beyond the health challenges in Port-au-Prince are towns and cities that have received little humanitarian assistance. Food and water supplies are inadequate.
People are getting desperate. Aid shipments are increasing in size and intensity. It is a race against time
to help tens of thousands of people. And yet, there is still hope for the Haitian people following the
seismic shifts on their island.
Supporters of Heart to Heart are helping make the following possible:
• A “humanitarian bridge” has been created to Haiti.
We have staff in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic; and Miami, Florida.
• We have already delivered nearly $5 million worth
of medicines and supplies to Haiti, and more
medical aid is on the way. We are sending aid
shipments almost daily to affected regions.
• Our founder, Dr. Gary Morsch, is leading the
efforts in Haiti, paving the way for more aid and
volunteers in the coming days and weeks.
• Teams of medical volunteers are arriving every
day. They are joining “extreme teams” of 4-5
individuals that travel to outlying, underserved
areas for 2-3 days. While in these towns and
cities, the teams are addressing immediate health
concerns, assessing ongoing needs, and
communicating those needs to our command center
in Port-au-Prince, so additional aid can be
channeled to these regions.
• One of those “extreme teams” traveled to Fondwa,
epicenter of a magnitude-6.0 earthquake that
struck on January 20. They were the first aid group
on the scene and began treating the injured
immediately. They will remain onsite for several
more days, receiving additional supplies and
support from our command center.
People can respond in any of the following ways:

FROM THE WEBSITE:

A HEART FOR HAITI
Earthquake Relief Update | January 21, 2010
The situation in Haiti is turbulent right now. Beyond the health challenges in Port-au-Prince are towns and cities that have received little humanitarian assistance. Food and water supplies are inadequate.
People are getting desperate. Aid shipments are increasing in size and intensity. It is a race against time
to help tens of thousands of people. And yet, there is still hope for the Haitian people following the
seismic shifts on their island.
Supporters of Heart to Heart are helping make the following possible:
• A “humanitarian bridge” has been created to Haiti.
We have staff in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic; and Miami, Florida.
• We have already delivered nearly $5 million worth
of medicines and supplies to Haiti, and more
medical aid is on the way. We are sending aid
shipments almost daily to affected regions.
• Our founder, Dr. Gary Morsch, is leading the
efforts in Haiti, paving the way for more aid and
volunteers in the coming days and weeks.
• Teams of medical volunteers are arriving every
day. They are joining “extreme teams” of 4-5
individuals that travel to outlying, underserved
areas for 2-3 days. While in these towns and
cities, the teams are addressing immediate health
concerns, assessing ongoing needs, and
communicating those needs to our command center
in Port-au-Prince, so additional aid can be
channeled to these regions.
• One of those “extreme teams” traveled to Fondwa,
epicenter of a magnitude-6.0 earthquake that
struck on January 20. They were the first aid group
on the scene and began treating the injured
immediately. They will remain onsite for several
more days, receiving additional supplies and
support from our command center.
People can respond in any of the following ways:

A HEART FOR HAITI
Earthquake Relief Update | January 21, 2010
The situation in Haiti is turbulent right now. Beyond the health challenges in Port-au-Prince are towns and cities that have received little humanitarian assistance. Food and water supplies are inadequate.
People are getting desperate. Aid shipments are increasing in size and intensity. It is a race against time
to help tens of thousands of people. And yet, there is still hope for the Haitian people following the
seismic shifts on their island.
Supporters of Heart to Heart are helping make the following possible:
• A “humanitarian bridge” has been created to Haiti.
We have staff in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic; and Miami, Florida.
• We have already delivered nearly $5 million worth
of medicines and supplies to Haiti, and more
medical aid is on the way. We are sending aid
shipments almost daily to affected regions.
• Our founder, Dr. Gary Morsch, is leading the
efforts in Haiti, paving the way for more aid and
volunteers in the coming days and weeks.
• Teams of medical volunteers are arriving every
day. They are joining “extreme teams” of 4-5
individuals that travel to outlying, underserved
areas for 2-3 days. While in these towns and
cities, the teams are addressing immediate health
concerns, assessing ongoing needs, and
communicating those needs to our command center
in Port-au-Prince, so additional aid can be
channeled to these regions.
• One of those “extreme teams” traveled to Fondwa,
epicenter of a magnitude-6.0 earthquake that
struck on January 20. They were the first aid group
on the scene and began treating the injured
immediately. They will remain onsite for several
more days, receiving additional supplies and
support from our command center.
People can respond in any of the following ways:
