Sow A Seed visited this site on Sat. 3/13/10 and delivered crackers (they had plenty of food), a water filtration system and provided a medic that sutured one childs head wound and determined one child needed medical attention for a scalp condition.
On Sun. 3/14/10 a team from COOPI visited this site and this is the email update:
My team visited this location today. The situation did not appear as dire as suggested in the email. While the building has not sustained any structural damage (not even superficial cracks) the director has insisted on the children sleeping outside at night, resulting in water damage to mattresses.
We will also try to arrange for a structural engineer to assure the director that the building is safe, and that the childeren do not have to sleep outside.
3/12/10 LTel: Urgent message from Lucie Jaboin - No aid has come to the orphanage yet from Sow A Seed. 5 children taken to the hospital due to illness (likely a result of no clean water) and it's costing $2000 Haitian currency. This is money this facility does not have and they still have BASIC URGENT CRITICAL SUPPLY NEEDS. In addition to the below list of needs, they now need:
LTEL 3/10/10: Spoke to Lucie Jaboin, Dir. of the Orphanage. An org promised two large tents three weeks ago and hasn't come back since. They measured the area even. They just received food recently.
Provided needs/addr to Sow A Seed for assessment by email 3/10/10. Lucie is going to follow up when she finds the name of the org that promised the tents so there is not duplication. They may still show up with them.
NOTE: UNICEF came by and delivered Clothing/Water approximately 2 weeks ago. No one has provided food or shelter for these children (sleeping outdoors) to date since the quake and no one from UNICEF said they’d be back with their urgent needs. Money has been wired to the Director but food on the black market is very expensive and this small orphanage doesn’t have a lot of monetary support. The age range of children (all girls) is 3-10 yrs. old.
Urgent Needs:
Some children have Malnutrition/Sickle Cell/A disease worse than Wig Worm on scalps that requires treatment of antibiotics. The children have not been examined by a physician since the quake.
"Jan. 25th, 2010 Michael visited and stated. 20 kids, no aid- no support- UN came by 2 days after quake, no other contact since
We have just received word from the staff members of the orphanage, the children and staff members are safe. The staff members of the orphanage urge for food, water and medical attention for the children. Though they are safe the air is polluted with the stench of three day old decaying bodies laying in the street. Dust is building up making the air harder to breathe and harder for respiration. The kids are surrounded by all kinds of dangerous elements we need your help to give the kids a better chance to survive this disasterous time.
We are working on ways to make the site more interactive for those who are following our posts. There will soon be a platform to leave comments; we ask if you can spread word of the orphanage by posting a link on other websites that would be a great help to our cause. We have a cause page on facebook and we're accepting all friend request, we encourage vistors to leave comments with ideas on how to make a better impact. Continue to use the contact form on our website to find out information on adopting or sponsoring a child. Please continue to send your prayers and gifts of love, care and hope. Haiti has faith!
After countless attempts to find information about the condition of the orphanage we finally made some progress. We managed to get in contact with the owner of the house next door. She stated that her house was still intact and the orphanage still stands. We also spoke to the owner of the orphanage house and she also confirmed that the house is in good condition. No word yet from any of the staff members within, nor have we heard any news about the children. We are trying our best to get as much information about the condition and the where abouts of the staff and children.
Our search for aid in this matter is extremely urgent and we ask for any and every hand that can help. Please continue to donate, we appreciate all the efforts so far to help us in the tragic time. We urge all people to help with food, clothes and monetary goods; all these and prayers can not be done in excess. The orphanage officials are working diligently to find more direct information about the children.
The orphanage is located in the Port-au-Prince area in Delmas not far from the earthquake. We are trying our best to get in contact with our directors at the orphanage. We can only pray that all the kids, teachers and directors are safe, but please aid in praying and in monetary aid through relief organizations. On the site we have ways to donate to the orphanage and we are shifting the donations that we receive to help in all areas of the earthquake relief. Please find a way to reach out and help us save lives of our families, friends, love ones and those we do not know. You can help in may ways please lend a hand, a voice and your heart.

Hi Leslie
We went to visit the orphanage yesterday and we think you have a good facility and staff but we had the impression that the staff could benefit from some training in contingency planning for the children and also some external help like regular medical checks, ensuring a balanced diet for each age group and some structured play-learning activity .
Please let me know because the general agreement here is that thing could get much worse once the rain start and so many people still in camps without proper shelter all over PaP.
We are already doing similar activities in Lima Peru were I am usually based.

No one has provided food or shelter for these children (sleeping outdoors) to date since the quake and no one from UNICEF said they’d be back with their urgent needs. The age range of children (all girls) is 3-10 yrs. old.
Urgent Needs:
FOOD (Beans/Rice/Pasta/Cooking Oil/Spaghetti Sauce/Canned Meat)
POWDERED MILK
JUICE
WATER
WATER PURIFICATION SUPPLIES/EQUIPMENT (so they can be self sufficient)
TENTS (For 20 girls & their caregivers – sleeping outside – not sure if structure is safe

I am trying to compile a list of physical addresses of orphanages
in the PaP area for Kentucky Adoption Services and the Joint
Council. They have humanitarian aid for orhanages and we need
addresses so the aid can get to the children. If the children
are not at the orphanage we need to know where they are. Thank
you for your help and God bless you in your efforts during this
very difficult time.
