Dr. Stephen Schroering, an orthopedic surgeon at the facility, is working with World Harvest Missions, an organization dedicated to caring for the people in need in Haiti. Lehigh Regional Medical Center is now teaming up with Dr. Schroering to make sure that food and medical supplies are sent to these people that need the most help. For this, the hospital is now and through the all of next week, accepting donations of non-perishable items such as dry and canned foods; over the counter drugs; toiletries and other personal care items such as soap, toothpaste and diapers, among others. Tax-deductible donations can also be made to “World Harvest Missions”. Donations are being received at the hospital’s administrative office located at 1500 Lee Boulevard, first floor, in Lehigh Acres. New Life Children's Home is located in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It has been an orphanage/rescue center since 1977. We have brought hundreds of children over the years who were severely malnourished or dying from every disease known to mankind. Many children were brought to us because they were abandoned and had no where to go. Today we have 115 children living at New Life Children's Home. The children s Home is located near the airport in Port-au-Prince and rests on 5 acres which was enclosed by a 13 foot security wall before the earthquake. Currently we need to rebuild the security wall as soon as possible. We have a team of medical workers who arrived at the compound who are using our land to set up a much needed make-shift ER room and a temporary shelter to house orphaned and injured children from the surrounding area. We are sending containers from the states loaded with medical supplies and equipment to operate the ER. We also are filling up containers to supply other orphanages and villages in desperate need of food, meds, and supplies. We are shipping through St. Marc as the Port-au-Prince wharf is temporarily closed for repairs. We want to thank you for your prayers, supplies and monetary donations.
