From Jennifer Page:
After school meets 3:30 - 5:30 Mon Tues Thurs and 11:30 - 2P
on Saturdays at our church building on Martin Luther King
Blvd. We will be able to accept up to 40 kids ages 7-12,
initially emphasizing grades 1-3,4 to build a strong
foundation of skills. For the overall program we will have
one certified teacher per 10 kids and college volunteers who
can work one-on-one with the kids. The first hour will be
devoted to homework help and the second hour to an exciting
research-based curriculum that emphasizes building fundamental
skills in a non standard classroom type format. It is very
important that our instruction is fun and does not “look like
school.” We use Voyager as our curriculum. Snack is provided.
The Summer Camp Program is designed to reach 60 children ages
7-12 with academic reinforcement in basic grade level reading,
writing, math, and social studies using research-based curricula,
certified teachers and trained volunteers. Special emphasis is
placed on individual attention with pre and post tests, LEAP
preparation and material that compliments school programs e.g.
science, computers and arts. The Summer Camp Program operates
at the Israelite Baptist Church location from June 12th –July
21st Monday through Friday from 8:30 – 5:30 and provides not
only academic support, but also exciting enrichment and
recreation opportunities including Friday outings and uses many
volunteer tutors from a variety of schools and colleges including
Jesuit High School to reinforce learning.
