My name is Licia Betor. I am from Real Hope For Haiti. We are located
in Cazale. A rural village outside of Cabaret. We have been receiving
Cholera patients since Nov 9th. The community of Cazale has donated a
house and we have 25 cots set up to receive patients. Since Nov 9th we
have received 251 cases. Many of these we are giving ORS. We just
wanted to touch base with you and let you know that we are here. We
continue to receive patients each day but so far have not had all the
beds full. Let me know if you have any questions.
11/15/10 HEAS Post from Dr. Jen Halverson 3:21 PM PDT:
Thanks to all of you for contacting me about getting supplies to the Real Hope for Haiti clinic in Cazale. They are currently seeing many patients with presumed cholera and are running low on supplies. They are not normally set up to be an inpatient center but they are now keeping inpatients (27 inpatients at last count, I believe) in the clinic's front yard and at a house nearby to the clinic that has been donated by the community for this use. They have about 60 malnourished children in their infant rescue center. Unfortunately about 10 of these children are now sick, 6 with suspected cholera. They are the only clinic in the area. I do not believe they are officially registered with MSPP but they have been open since 1999 (seeing over 1000 patients per week) and the local government/mayor in Cazale is very grateful they are there. I believe they have been in the process of trying to register with MSPP for quite a long time.
Here is more information about their clinic (see below). Please feel free to contact them directly (it is best to call Zach, as he coordinates their supplies), or you can contact me. Zach is generally in Port every day and can pick up supplies in Port. Thanks again for offering to help.
I do not know how far away the house the community donated, where they are housing cholera patients, is located.
I believe the GPS coordinates of RHFH are
18.797219579439655
and
-72.38613724708557
or 18 degrees 47 minutes 49.9914 seconds
and -72 degrees 23 minutes 10.0932

11/12/10 HEAS from Dr. Jen Halverson 2:58 AM:
The clinic in Cazale saw many suspected cholera patients on Thursday, with patients arriving at all hours. Lori suspects that at least some of the patients (who are presenting with vomiting and diarrhea) do not actually have cholera but are scared and are being cautious. The clinic is currently keeping some patients overnight. Several stool specimens have been sent to Port au Prince for testing, but they have not yet heard back regarding results. No deaths so far.
11/11/10 HEAS POST 8:02 pm:
Lori and Licia this is Tim Alford from Anderson. If you need help we sent 1900 lbs of IV fluid to St. Ard. They are making their own ORF and can handle more patients at this time. As of this morning they only had 5 cholera pts and were slow. Hope this helps

group?]
Real Hope For Haiti is reporting on their twitter account that
patients are arriving at their clinic (largely a clinic for
malnourished children, but does help the community with other
ailments) that patients are showing up at 10pm on motorcycles with
vomiting and diarrhea. They are not really set up to be a cholera
treatment center & I don't know how much of this they are seeing yet.
They are located in Cazale (near Cabaret-NW of PAP off National
Highway 1).
They have email: lori @realhope4haiti and/or licia @realhope4haiti
They are the only open medical facility in Cazale.

FROM THE WEBSITE:
EARTHQUAKE UPDATE (Jan 14, 2010)
The Zachary family is safe, and all children in the rescue center are accounted for. The clinic is currently running, and has been since the time of the earthquake. Patients from the village, as well as patients from surrounding areas are coming for help. Wounded and injured people from Port-Au-Prince are also present, since most cannot find medical care in the capital city. Right now, there are two pressing needs. One, prayer for the Haitian men, women, and children who are experiencing tremendous suffering and loss. Pray for the safety and well-being of the 70+ children in rescue center who are sleeping outside each night for fear of aftershocks. Two, finances to purchase supplies as they are made available. The rescue center is critically low on supplies such as formula, food, diesel fuel for generator, and water. Also, medical supplies for the many people that are still coming through the clinic with severe medical needs.

1/20/10 LTel: Per a volunteer at the Haiti Children's Home, this site has 70+ children with malnutrition and is in urgent need of supplies.
Read about the Rescue Center to get a good idea of the children/adults that they take in and shelter. They are not an orphanage, but take in kids (and adults) with very special needs:

Hope this helps

hygiene kits
Zofran or other anti-emetic

MREs for staff & pts.
None are extremely urgent. These will be the next things that we run

Our first pt came Nov 9. We are up to 471 pts with suspected cholera.
We bought cholera quick tests, but they have not arrived yet. We sent
specimens for the first 12 pts to the National Lab by L'hopital de la
Paix on Delmas 33, but they have not/will not give us the results. I stopped
sending them in because it seemed to take time, money and personnel away
from the pressing situation of pt care. We had a bad time there at the
beginning, but we are getting the hang of things now. I have a few good
Haitian staff helping me. I'm attaching a list of the pts and a graph.
Please let me know what info I should be sending you or if you have any
questions or comments.
Thanks,

I just talked to Lori in Cazale. Their CTC house holds about 20 beds. Every space is filled. They also have 10 chairs filled with people who don't need IVs but need to be drinking ORS continually. They've seen about 125 cases so far and have had 2 deaths, both children. They are getting some supplies from Samaritan's purse in Bercy.
Here are their biggest current needs:
1. LR: they are going through about 80-100 L a day; they currently have a 4-5 day supply
2. IV angiocaths (20, 22, 24 gauge) and IV tubing
3. Cleaning supplies (BLEACH, alcohol, spray bottles, trash bags, disinfectant wipes, 5 gallon pails, etc)
4. Diapers (adult and kids), chux pads
5. Azithromycin suspension and tablets
6. Zofran (sublingual tabs)
7. Bottled water
8. Headlamps, rechargeable lanterns, etc
9. MREs
10. Zinc
11. ORS packets

Contact information at Real Hope for Haiti:
Zach (best person to contact regarding supplies): 3761.9462
Licia (runs the rescue center): 3761.9464
Lori (nurse running the clinic/CTC): 3761.7316

Jen
Here is a link to google maps. The white line is the road. They are right in front of where the road crosses the river. There is a new bridge right in front of the clinic that is not pictured here on google maps but is there now to continue the road.
The current Rescue Center is at the top of the screen. The other cluster of buildings is the Clinic.
I do not know how far away the house the community donated, where they are housing cholera patients, is located.
I believe the GPS coordinates of RHFH are
18.797219579439655
and
-72.38613724708557
or 18 degrees 47 minutes 49.9914 seconds
and -72 degrees 23 minutes 10.0932
Contact information:
Zach (best person to contact regarding supplies): 3761.9462
Licia (runs the rescue center): 3761.9464
Lori (nurse running the clinic/CTC): 3761.7316
11/11/10 HEAS POST 7:25 PM:

[Lori, Licia, do you have additional details you can share with the

Also, medical supplies for the many people that are still coming through the clinic with severe medical needs.
