Mission: Although the U.S. and Haiti are separated by a flight of less than two hours, the economic distance between them could hardly be greater. The gap between these neighboring nations mirrors the growing gulf between the privileged and powerless worldwide and testifies to the brokenness and injustice of our world.
It is across this great chasm that Beyond Borders works, building understanding and solidarity between the wealthy and the poor. Together we find new meaning for our lives and the strength to build a world where God's peace and justice reign
This organization provides Temporary or Permanent Service? Temporary

Explaining Our Response
Beyond Borders is working around the clock to coordinate strategic interventions and facilitate collaboration between local organizations and international aid agencies. We are focused on the population of Port-au-Prince and the isolated community of Jacmel. Constant communication allows us to prioritize and streamline relief efforts. There are two phases to our effort.
Phase I: Our priority is to coordinate a rapid response in collaboration with other international NGOs and Haitian organizations. During this phase, funds will be used to get resources to those in need, such as transport for medical teams, purchase of critical supplies – medicine, food, satellite phones, mobile internet bases, excavation and clean-up tools, diesel fuel, etc.
Phase II: As the initial crisis passes, we will use funds to support the recovery effort. We will assist our partners who have lost school buildings, homes, and offices. We will support education, teacher training, sustainable agriculture, and investments in rural livelihoods. We will continue our unique focus on child protection and welfare especially for the most vulnerable children—those who have lost parents and family or become separated from them. To read more about our work focused on child protection, visit Post-Disaster Child Protection.
This earthquake has set this effort back, but our commitment is not shaken. For almost two decades we have been empowering Haitians to improve the lives of Haitians. We will continue investing in the capacity of Haitians to build a better future.
--------------------------------------------------------------
In response to the earthquake that devastated much of southern Haiti, Beyond Borders immediately launched a network of international and Haitian organizations to work around the bottleneck that had formed in the delivery of emergency assistance. Through this network we have been:
•connecting medical teams with local organizations to set up field hospitals,
•established an office and logistical team in the neighboring Dominican Republic to help coordinate the flow of aid,
•secured boats, trucks, and aircraft to carry aid into Haiti,
•purchasing and supplying medicine, fuel, and food for humanitarian organizations paralyzed by the lack of these critical items.
In addition to our initial focus on relief, we lead in the development of a new coalition of local Haitian organizations and international agencies committed to grassroots development. Through this new coalition and our many other partners in Haiti we are:
•working to help neglected rural areas respond to the mass migration from Port-au-Prince and other urban areas,
•organizing a child protection initiative to help children who have become separated from their parents or have lost their parents,
•begining the recovery effort, helping rebuild schools and reinvigorate local organizations.
