Monday 1/18/10 Update
It was a good day! Three flights departed from Agape’s hangar in Venice , FL.
Agape Flights’ King Air 90 left this morning carrying emergency supplies into Port-au-Prince and landed around 4 p.m. The plane will depart for the Dominican Republic where it will be loaded with supplies standing by at the airport in the DR. Water and critical supplies will be shuttled back to Port au Prince early Tuesday (1/19) morning.
In addition, a donated Aztec left our hangar at noon headed for the Dominican Republic .
We have two time slots to land planes in Port au Prince tomorrow. The King Air will land first followed by the Aztec loaded with donated supplies from the D.R. The current plan is to use the Aztec as a shuttle for the next week between Port au Prince and the DR.
And a third plane, a Diamond Jet with doctors and medical supplies left the hangar early this morning. The trip is flying under Agape Flights banner, but the supplies and one doctor on board were not supplied through Agape Flights . This plane will return to the Agape Flights hangar tomorrow.
Agape Flights also shipped a 20 foot sea container packed with emergency supplies. The cargo cleared US customs this afternoon and is scheduled to be in Port au Prince tomorrow (Tuesday, 1/19). Although the port is closed because of extensive damage, this ship has been cleared to enter. We were given free passage for all the supplies and the container! Praise God!!

VENICE - Here at home, local organizations are gathering information on how they can help in Haiti. Agape Flights in Venice already makes weekly trips to Haiti bringing supplies for hundreds of religious mission groups. Now they're trying to talk to those they help so they can bring them what they need most.
Tuesday's earthquake is just the latest disaster to hit the area ravished by recent storms and over-population; a place already getting local help.
For decades, Agape has flown in relief. Now those here at home are finding it hard to get in touch with those in the middle of chaos as they prepare to bring supplies.
"Horror," says Dick Armstrong, summing up the immediate reaction to the large quake and aftershocks, which could result in the death of hundreds of thousands. "It was in very poor shape before the earthquake. I cannot imagine what happened to fragile buildings down there." Armstrong currently heads up Agape. The organization flies a plane full of supplies to Haiti and the Dominican Republic for 330 missionary groups every week. The flight set to leave Wednesday morning was delayed as they re-evaluate the need. "We are off-loading the plane and taking off things that the missionaries in particular the Port-au-Prince thought were important a day or two ago. We are now putting things on that are more urgent."
Medical supplies the top need; everything from band aids to gauze. Trying to figure out what exactly they need has been a challenge so far. " Part of the problem is hearing anything. The phones down there are overloaded and we have been very unsuccessful talking on cell phones."
They supply 130 missions in Port-Au-Prince alone. It's the area hardest hit with more than two million residents. So far, they've heard from just a handful of their missions. "We know of a missionary couple that were buried in their home. They have got the wife out."
Right now they're trying to figure out if they'll be able to land at the local airport. Communication with those there and maybe a little from above. "We need to pray for these people who are down there. This was already a very very poor part of the world. It's hard to imagine what has happened down there."
Those at Agape Flights are hoping you can help answer some of those prayers. They've already had two extra planes and pilots donated and now they need to fill them. Medical supplies and money are the most needed.
Their facilities are located at the Venice airport and you can find their web site at www.agapeflights.com.
